Is there a user called admin? The default user is pi.

Is this the same RPi that previously had a White login screen?

Neither situation is expected or normal.

Your reference to 'admin' might be a clue...

Trying to start the GUI Desktop as 'root' - the administrator or superuser - is in general Not A Good Idea, and will change the permissions on vital files such that the system will no longer boot up cleanly.

To repeat the query implied in the reply in the previous post: what are you doing to get into this situation. Starting from a fresh installation of 2017-09-07-raspbian-stretch, what steps would we need to take to recreate the issue you are seeing?

Nvm I found out that rm /home/(insert user)/.XAuthority or mv /home/(insert user)/.XAuthority /home/(insert user)/.XAuthority-backup works

As for pi being removed, I checked how to secure Linux and it ended up with removing the default user.

So, you ask a question without mentioning a whole lot of other stuff you'd done...
