Adding users to 'audio' group (Linux permissions)

Thu Aug 30, 2012 9:09 am

Hi all

I'm a Linux newbie. I can't get sound to play in Scratch or audio players. The speakers work fine (tested on another computer), and hello_audio.bin compiled and worked okay (I heard the wow sound).

I've read a lot online and I believe I need to give users permission to access the sound card by adding them to the 'audio' group. Could someone tell me how I do this please, so I can try that next?

Many thanks!

To add an existing user to an existing group, use the command below.
You will need to do this as root or use sudo.

Code: Select all

usermod -a -G <goup name> <username>
good luck
