Strange network behavior SSH to pi/wifi -"no route to host"

Tue Mar 12, 2013 8:02 pm

I use a dlink DWL-122 G on the pi with 2013-02-09-wheezy-raspbian (no rpi-updates, no dist-upgrade only apt-get update/install)

Code: Select all

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 2001:3c00 D-Link Corp. AirPlus G DWL-G122 Wireless Adapter(rev.B1) [Ralink RT2571]
IP,DNS,route all is ok on pi,
i log-out.

After 10 or 15 min i try to login via ssh again -- Without luck.
Try SSH from my router (fritz.box) to raspberry works fine.
2nd try from my laptop to pi does also works for now.
10 min later the same, "no route to host"

Code: Select all

root@raspberrypi:/home/develop/mongodb_pi# exit
logout
Connection to 192.168.178.40 closed.
basti@thinkpad:~$ ssh root@192.168.178.40
ssh: connect to host 192.168.178.40 port 22: No route to host
basti@thinkpad:~$ ssh root@192.168.178.1

The fun has just begun ...

root@raspberrypi:~#
The network looks like

Code: Select all

wan -- fritz.box (router,DNS,wifi) -- fritzbox2 (ip-client,wifi) -- pi and laptop via wifi near to fritzbox2
A Cron job i have installed yesterday to fix this with ping the router very 10 min does log that ping was ok all the time.
Yesterday i also disable (exit 0 on top)

Code: Select all

/etc/pm/sleep.d/ifplugd
wifi power-management is also disabled by /etc/network/interfaces

Code: Select all

root@raspberrypi:~# iwconfig wlan0 | grep Power
          Bit Rate=54 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Power Management:off
root@raspberrypi:~#
2 days before i try to fix this with reinstall the system.

Any suggestions ?

Is the dongle plugged directly into the Pi or via a hub? If the latter is it a "powered hub"? What "MxPwr" (current) does the command "usb-devices" report? (You'll have search for equivalent entry to that above which appears to be from "lsusb"). Most WiFi dongles tend to demand a high current when searching for or re-establishing a connection which may not "be available". I've noticed similar ssh and ping "drop-outs" when the connection has not re-established itself - re-booting usually recovers things. (See also my "Networking a model A Pi" thread).
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

Oh i forgotten to post, the device need no more than 300mA with an established connection.

Code: Select all

T: Bus=01 Lev=03 Prnt=04 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 5 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=2001 ProdID=3c00 Rev=00.01
S: Manufacturer=ANI
S: Product=802.11g W
C: #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=300mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=rt2500usb
At the moment i use the original 1,2A power supplier, would i get more power on USB-line with a 2A power supplier or is there a limititer on the borad?

All is connect to a powerd USB hub, on the raspi the is too weak power.

The trick with the router doesn't work anymore.
