LAN via Ethernet Bridge (Win7)

Fri Jul 27, 2012 10:18 am

Hi there,

Yesterday I received my Raspberry Pi and I'm pretty happy with it. But I now try to setup the Network Connection. I'm bridging my wireless LAN on my Win7 machine to a Network Cable which goes to the Pi. In the internet I could only find out how to acces files and folders on the Win7 machine using samba, but I couldn't figure out how I have to setup my network connection on the Pi to go online via the briged network connection...
I'm using the new Raspbian Linux.

Thanks for your help.

you need to configure you win7 pc allow internet connection sharing, not sure if this will work for windows 7, as its for Vista, but it should be a good starting point.

The "problem" is not on the Windows side. I had two different Windows-Laptops connected to the LAN-cable the Pi is now attached to and both had an internet connection. And the Pi won't do so with DHCP configured or with static IP.

It's also possible to make a bridge between your wifi adaptator (on the computer) and your ethernet card (on the pc again)

My raspberry is configured with a static ip and point to my computer then the trafic is redirected thru the wireless adaptator with a bridge.

Here is the content of the network interface config file on the raspberry
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.50 (raspberry ip)
netmask 255.255.255.0
broadcast 192.168.0.15 (static ip address of the pc ethernet card)
gateway 192.168.0.1

after that, both the ethernet and the wireless card need to be setup as bridged.
And it's normaly working (my pc still have internet)
(I haven't selected any sharing option in the interface cards)

Maybe it's not the most efficient solution

Oh... How stupid... My bridged network card had no static ip. That's all that went wrong...
