Honestly I'm very happy with my board and the quality is fantastic. It came in an original Raspberry Pi box, so it is nice to give a start. As far as I know, "Made in China" is an obsolete version of the unit and Rasberry Pi are no longer in to making boards in China. "Made in the UK" one is the future product.
I do not agree with you that Raspberry Pi comes with UK seal is made in China. I personally know there are many superior PCB factories in the UK. Their manufacturing costs are marginally higher but quality is unbeatable. Not seeing "Made in UK" products doesn't mean UK doesn't manufacture them. It is that 90% of those are domestic and what we get is the cheap Chinese products due to cultural difference.
This is long story said in short.
I'm buying electronic stuff from Lankatronics for many months now and they are superb. I'm very satisfied. I got to know that they import these units through authorised dealerships. As a Sri Lankan, I appreciate their efforts in bringing down high quality products rather than Chinese crap to boost the electronic industry in Sri Lanka. Doesn't matter I pay few bucks to them, as long as they are engineers who love the field of technology and taste the flavour of innovation, I support them.
You paid nearly Rs. 6000 for a Chinese version and I paid Rs. 8500 for the UK version. Ten more bucks for the best is worthier
Someone mentioned that Oral (Farnel local agent) takes this down to 7,500... I called them before bying from Lankatronics and they have clearly mentioned me that model A is Rs. 7500 and the B is 8750. So misinformation here. Model B is worthier than A with more RAM and some other minor mods. If you are not in to signal processing, you can be happy with A, but I think it is far more worthier to go for B straight away.
