All gone!
Pico/RP2040 ≠ Arduino
Pico = hot rod kit car, Arduino = hot rod kit car wrapped in cotton wool with buoyancy aids & parachute

Hmm, that 40k devices sold fast!

Anyway, in the next few months there will be a LOT of RP2040's hitting the channel, so things should be a little less "out of stock" later this year.

Canakit has them, but they are only 1 per customer.
Adafruit doesn't have them, but they say they will.
Just check all the vendors.

So you could place a $1 order + $5 shipping?
How to make your arguments stronger? Longer is not the answer.

Welcome to the world where it cheaper to buy advanced silicon devices than post them.

I ordered from Chicago Electronic Distributors. One RP2040, four line switches, two Picos, so about $25 before shipping.

I'm very curious whether these will be made available to SMT assembly companies such as JLCPCB (and parts-supply company LCSC who effectively supplies them with everything); firms like this deliberately target hobbyist/"maker" community designers.

I really like the idea of designing my own board(s), but assembling QFN packages is something I'd prefer to leave with somebody who does it better than me.

The Pimoroni PGA 2040 is likely to be an option for those wishing to design and assemble their own boards while at the same time avoiding soldering QFN packages. See viewtopic.php?f=147&t=313243

That's fine for prototypes (as are the various boards which are available), but not realistic if one wishes to make, say, 10 to 50 boards at a low cost. For that, surface-mount assembly is now within reach (as long as the parts are available at the assembly shops - who generally have very specific lists of components).

AIUI, this will happen. The chip will be available to everyone, but it may take a couple on months to fill the supply chains.

This will be awesome! Especially JLCPCB which have a user friendly online ordering system that doesn't require waiting for quotes, etc., as the other guys do. And hopefully the other stuff that the RP2040 needs to work (compatible Flash?).

Extra points for a small RP2040 reference design with parts that are fully available with their SMD assembly service. Also, having Picos already available for SMD assembly service will be very useful.

The RP2040 reference design is the "Minimal Design Example" and is discussed in detail in Chapter 2 of "Hardware Design with RP2040". There is also KiCad files for this board available to download. You have full permission to use, copy, modify, and/or distribute the design files for any purpose with or without fee .

I'm looking a modem (GSM) that can communicate with "Raspberry Pi Pico".

Project functionality:
When a vibration sensor sends a signal to the Pi Pico, an alarm (buzzer) will be triggered and an LED will start flashing.

I need a modem that will alert me when I'm not close enough to hear the alarm. the only modems I can find are designed the Raspberry Pi not the Pi Pico.
