run ubuntu on RPI4, could not login

Mon Sep 28, 2020 10:07 pm

flash this image to a SD card
https://ubuntu.com/download/raspberry-p ... m64+raspi4
insert SD card to RPI4. boots up. asking for login.
follow the instruction on that download page.
Login to your Pi

When prompted to log in, use “ubuntu” for the username and the password. You will be asked to change this default password after you log in.

You are now running the Ubuntu Server on your Raspberry Pi.
I changed PW to password.
enter. it asked for login. username: ubuntu. password: password.
login incorrect.

what I did wrong?
this is simple instruction. I really could not find my mistake.

please help

thanks

ubuntu boot takes a long time. wait till it fully stops.
you need to be wired or it won't accept passwords.
type ubuntu 3 times then the new password twice.

Good grief what does any of that mean?

Are you saying that one cannot login to ones own computer unless it is internet connected (wired)?

If that is even remotely true, which I doubt, that is enough reason to delete Ubuntu immediately.

And what is all that crap about typing user name and password so many times?

I don't believe a word of it.

it just needs to be wired at first setup, you know so it can phone home, let them know there's a new user.

yes, at first setup it asks for ubuntu 3 times, read it, don't just assume.

it's a cloud server out of the box, with out a connection to the net it's well you know.

Heater,
I agree with you. what he said not make sense. I do have monitor and keyboard connected. I don't think internet connection is needed for me to login. if that is the case, the ubuntu web should states that. I wonder why no one asked my question before. I missed any thing?!
 :(

i told them it was dumb, just like i told them there needs to be a simple way to setup wifi if you can't wire in, i had to get 50 feet of ethernet cable just to play around with ubuntu, now i have powerline ethernet so distance is no longer a issue for me, but it was in the past.

it's a server they assume users use it wired, at first boot it tries to connect to there cloud for a ssh key. ....

you can go over there & voice your opinion, file a bug, let them know we would like a desktop version, etc....

yeap, just like i remember. it's still a turd.

first boot is still long, have to wait till after the ssh key message, than hit enter.
login ubuntu
password ubuntu
current password ubuntu
new password
retype password

yeap, 3x ubuntu

then you have to wait cause unattended upgrades is running, so you can't do nothing, it won't even let you shutdown till it's finished.

then you can run update, 76 packages.

now I'm trying to get ubuntu-desktop installed, she's a'goin.

be back when i get to desktop.

like i said you have to wait till you see the ssh message, it will say ubuntu login before it's finished booting. not till after it gets the ssh hosts key will it actually work.

i still think it's dumb to have a login in at all, it should just boot & ask for a new password.
running unattended-upgrade as soon as you log in is also stupid, it locks the user out, who most likely will run updates anyways to begin installing & setup of the system.

anyways, like i said, there still doing stupid things.

i put ubuntu on a laptop, even there i had to fix it. it use to just work out of the box.
