Recently bought a RP4 I have Ubuntu Server 16.06.04 with Ubuntu mate running the gui. However, Bluetooth doesn't work, headphone jack doesn't work. I have the crazy issue where I have to start the pi on my wife's TV and then move it to my TV. Something happened to the command terminal where it doesn't recognize / to move into different directories but understands. ./example/ don't know what that's all about. Its 2020 and Linux still isn't user friendly?

What distro just works? Or is Linux designed to have you surf forums and bang head on desk. (Not that I don't mind the challenge ;) )

Simple answer, Raspbian, its the OS that was specifically designed for the RPI.

Installing Ubuntu, although understandable, is simply a mistake, unless you have very specific reasons to do so.

p.s. moved this post to the separate Ubuntu section of the forum.

You can download Raspbian here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/

First of all how on earth do you get ubuntu 16.04 running on a Pi? The earlies version of ubuntu that works on a Pi 4B is 19.04, and that's been replaced 20.04 LTS. You can find it on the ubuntu download page.

Second, Raspbian is the best OS for the pi. It has HW acceleration, and all the support from the Rpi foundation. If you don't like the default desktop of Raspbian, I don't mind sharing with you some tips on how to get a more modern looking DE.

A very surprising post.

Raspberry Pi have their own distro where everything works, and a tool to image a your SD card, available from the website here. https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/

I am intrigued as to how you ended up with Ubuntu instead of the recommended OS.
