Linux Mint "Debbie" on Raspberry Pi

Wed Mar 25, 2020 6:16 pm

Mint have just released LMDE 4 based on Debian Buster. The system requirments seem quite light and it looks like a 2GB or 4GB Raspberry Pi 4 should be well up to the task of running the OS.

Does anyone know or has anyone tried running the Debian version of Linux Mint (LMDE 4) on a Raspberry Pi and does it work ?. Were any special install procedures required ?

It requires x86 CPU Architecture...

...the Raspberry Pi is ARM CPU Architecture.

The closest I could get was to install Raspbian Lite (no GUI) and then load up the core Cinnamon desktop and lightdm. After getting into the desktop I installed Synaptic and then I got all the rest of the Cinnamon packages. It seems pretty stable. I just wish I could get the running applications in the task bar to minimize to icons only. Haven't been able to figure that one out yet.

I followed pretty much the same process using Ubuntu server at first but then went with Raspbian lite figuring it should be better optimized for the hardware. The resources seem OK on the 4GB model.
