Boot into RAID - RPi 4 B 4GB, Ubuntu 19.10

Mon Mar 09, 2020 10:41 am

Hi everyone!

Is it possible to boot into RAIDs (best RAID 0) with ubuntu 19.10 and a Pi 4B 4GB?

I've read viewtopic.php?t=29992 but the boot-process seems to differ on ubuntu.

Has anyone ever tried something like this or similar on ubuntu with a Pi 4?

I'd be happy to get some help! :D ;)

Do you mean "Is it possible to have the root filesystem on a LVM RAID array?"

The answer is yes, but it's not something I'd want to do. It's hard enough getting a single HDD/SSD connected to a RPi (due to the power requirement). Running more than one USB drive is harder as it WILL need external power.
Note: Any requirement to use a crystal ball or mind reading will result in me ignoring your question.

Yes, that's what I like to achieve.

I don't have any Problem with external/additional power-supplys and I know how to setup RAIDs with mdadm but I don't know which boot-changes I have to make to directly boot from the RAID.

The stuff at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lvm should work on Ubuntu 19.10 on ARM.

If it doesn't you may want to ask questions on the Ubuntu forums at: https://ubuntuforums.org/

Thank you, I'll give it a try!
