Re: Ubuntu 18.04 and Raspberry Pi 4 support

Yes, I've been considering my options. I spent today trying Ubuntu 19.10.1 because it has better hardware support, but it keeps installing desktops with "Activities". These are horrible and I can't spend any more time trying to figure out how to make them workable. I tried xubuntu, lubuntu, and ubuntu-mate using different desktop manager settings but to no avail. All of them install with a default desktop of "Activities" and I can't find a tool to select a different desktop. I was trying ubuntu because Java was giving me problems in Raspbian, so I thought it would be easier to switch OS to one that works than to troubleshoot Java on Raspbian. UGH. I can't get ubuntu 18.0.4 64-bit working on my Pi4, 18.0.64 32-bit works but throws an error under ubutntu-mate, and the all of the default desktop options are horrible under 19.10.1 and it's easier to switch back to Raspbian than try to fix it. I guess it comes with the territory of working on a development platform!

i hate the move towards "snap" packages in *buntu 19, they still feel so slow to me.
i switched my laptop top to pop-os after being with ubuntu for years. there a corp, there interests come first, users are a after thought, standard op for any "company". :D

Return to “Ubuntu”
