Cannot connect to Wi-Fi with Ubuntu 18.04

Sun Feb 16, 2020 4:42 pm

I've been having this issue with my 4GB Raspberry Pi 4B since I got it and I hope someone could have an idea. I tried everything I could find online but nothing resolved my issue so far.

I flashed the following Ubuntu 18.04 image on my 128GB SanDisk SD card: https://ubuntu.com/download/raspberry-p ... m64+raspi3 from https://ubuntu.com/download/raspberry-pi (dont be tricked by the "raspi3" in the url, it's the link they provide for the Pi 4 image).

Everything works fine on my Pi, I can login normally, manage packages, and use all other features.

The only thing that isn't working is finding wifi networks. I search for all available networks by using sudo iwlist wlan0 scan. It searches for a few seconds and then returns wlan0 No scan results.

What I tried so far:
  • Tried the newest release (Ubuntu 19.10), which had the same issue
  • Reinstalling the Ubuntu image
  • Using sudo for all commands used
  • Setting the wifi region to my country (DE)
  • Changing my wifi frequency bands from 13 to 9 or less in my router settings, since non-EU systems sometimes have issues with these bands
  • Using rfkill to make sure that the wireless card isn't blocked
all to no avail, unfortunately.

Thanks for your help!

Does it work under Raspbian? If not then there is a HW problem, if it does work then is an Ubuntu problem. There are other threads in this subsection on Ubuntu wireless. I guess you might need a more recent version.

this is the fix:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1122757 ... -and-above
same fix works for 19.10

the sound stutter can be fixed with this:
sudo nano /etc/pulse/default.pa

look for:

Code: Select all

load-module module-udev-detect
change to:

Code: Select all

load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0
if i remember right, everything else works it's just slower than say raspbian lite + "whatever desktop"
the 32bit works better than the 64bit for 19.10 install.
if using gnome, select the xorg option in gdm login.

Thank you a lot, this is exactly what was wrong. All networks show up now.

What type of wireless network are you trying to connect to? 802.11b? 802.11n? I ask as there is an issue with the firmware which we include with both 18.04.4 and 19.10.1 and networks which are only 802.11ac.
