Can you hotplug the official display?

Wed Apr 10, 2019 7:07 am

As the title says, is it possible to hotplug a DSI display? I'm using an official Raspberry Pi 7" touchscreen display attached to a Pi 3 B+. Ideally, I'd like a DSI equivalent to hdmi_force_hotplug in config.txt so that I can boot the pi and power the display later.
Thanks!

No.
- The connector really isn't designed for it, so you'll get lots of nastiness at an electrical level if you are genuinely hotplugging it.
- IIRC The I2C peripheral on the display board isn't an open drain, so pulls the lines down if it loses power.
- The firmware isn't set up to send the initialisation sequence to the board at any point other than boot.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll look into other ways of doing what I need :)
