full screen staggered with vlc

full screen staggered with vlc

i have recently mounted 7 inch lcd on a pi3b + and all is well.

only flaw found I had with vlc if I put a video in full screen.

it cuts it off by getting the video out of the screen, so not reconfiguring correctly with the 800 * 480 resolution or even setting in the config.txt 1024 * 768,

putting the video in full screen, it doesn't fill the frame but only shows part of the video , same thing when I start minecraft,

how can I make the raspberry keep in mind its resolution or the one set in the config.txt without showing full video in full screen?

Official display resolutiin is 80ox480pixels

If you want to see some more content you can do this viewtopic.php?t=184762

If your video size is bigger than your display resolution you should try running OMX-Player in window mode

I wanted to understand why if I open a video with VLC at the foot of the screen it doesn't fit the display resolution, making me see only a part of the video, while when VLC works in a window, is everything ok? same thing if i load minecraft

Sorry, but I don't understand the meaning of 'open a video with VLC at the foot of the screen'.
VLC always runs in a window which can be freely moved on the desktop by the user. You can also spread it over several screens as you see here viewtopic.php?f=63&t=216399&start=300#p1393097 (NOTE: this is still BETA!).

Most FOSS is built to run at 1024x768 which is XGA, or bigger - trying to run it on smaller screens will have such cut off as you describe. 8-)

(Your screen would likely run it at 800x600 SVGA.)

Even if you could get it to fill the screen, then it would, no doubt, be out of proportion on it. ;)

Code: Select all

GNU nano 2.7.4 File: /boot/config.txt
# For more options and information see
# http://rpf.io/configtxt
# Some settings may impact device functionality. See link above for details

# uncomment if you get no picture on HDMI for a default "safe" mode
#hdmi_safe=1

# uncomment this if your display has a black border of unused pixels visible
# and your display can output without overscan
#disable_overscan=1

# uncomment the following to adjust overscan. Use positive numbers if console
# goes off screen, and negative if there is too much border
#overscan_left=16
#overscan_right=16
#overscan_top=16
#overscan_bottom=16

# uncomment to force a console size. By default it will be display's size minus
# overscan.
#framebuffer_width=1280
#framebuffer_height=720

# uncomment if hdmi display is not detected and composite is being output
#hdmi_force_hotplug=1

# uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA)
#hdmi_group=1
#hdmi_mode=1

# uncomment to force a HDMI mode rather than DVI. This can make audio work in
# DMT (computer monitor) modes
#hdmi_drive=2

# uncomment to increase signal to HDMI, if you have interference, blanking, or
# no display
GNU nano 2.7.4 File: /boot/config.txt
# uncomment to increase signal to HDMI, if you have interference, blanking, or
# no display
#config_hdmi_boost=4

# uncomment for composite PAL
#sdtv_mode=2

#uncomment to overclock the arm. 700 MHz is the default.
#arm_freq=800

# Uncomment some or all of these to enable the optional hardware interfaces
#dtparam=i2c_arm=on
#dtparam=i2s=on
#dtparam=spi=on

# Uncomment this to enable the lirc-rpi module
#dtoverlay=lirc-rpi

# Additional overlays and parameters are documented /boot/overlays/README

# Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835)
dtparam=audio=on
lcd_rotate=2
I should point out that the config file is the basic one. I only set the rotation 2

Add below to your config.txt to see if it makes any difference

Code: Select all

framebuffer_width=800
framebuffer_height=480

begs all thanks for the help, I had already tried to uncomment these entries, and if I use this option nothing changes,

if I force the framebuffer to 1280 x 768 although the icons are small vlc full screen seems to go,

while at 800 x 480 vlc reproduces well in the window but as soon as I put the video in full screen,

vlc does not self-dimension to show it at 800 x 480 but shows only a part of the video

In practice, when vlc plays a video in a window, if you double-click on the video being played to put it in full screen, it is not played well. goes off the scale to understand the video.

After some tests I found out what was bothering to vlc, the problem is the last kernel installed with the command: sudo rpi-update, kernel version 4.19.29 which does not allow the correct view of videos with vlc.

if possible, report the bug to those responsible

rpi-update installs a testing kernel / firmware and should only be used under advisement to fix a specific issue.

There is a whole post regarding 4.19.x kernel:

viewtopic.php?f=29&t=224931

Therefore it is at this time best to stick with the stable kernel until 4.19.x is official released.

however, VLC error in full screen remains. here is an example of a video camera in a window and in full screen, we see that in full screen only part of the video is seen

defective video in full screen and seen correct but in VLC window, stable kernel

if instead I choose from the VLC menu the full screen interface plus minimal interface I can see the video correctly in full screen. but if I click twice on the video from the VLC window to not do these 2 steps it gives me that flaw
