Comparison with 7" Non-touch Waveshare LCD

Mon Jul 16, 2018 10:25 am

I did buy 7" Waveshare LCD for two reasons:
  1. I don't want to touch the display because I have touch on wireless keyboard
  2. only 60% of price compared to official foundation display (in Germany)
All works fine with Waveshare 7" for me, even raspivid preview window and taking screenshots, both in console mode as well as in X-Windows.

Official foundation display and Waveshare 7" Non-Touch both provide 60fps.

There is one advantage on Waveshare side, resolution is bigger, 1024x600 compared to 800x480 of official foundation display.

There is one disadvantage of Waveshare 7" Non-touch display, it only has rgb666 18bit color depth, and not rgb888 24bit as official foundation display. I asked Waveshare support, and all 7" Waveshare models (the HDMI and Touch ones as well) only support 18bit color depth.
