The Foundation does not tend to announce its plans in advance of the launch day.

You'll have to wait and see.

Having said that, perhaps if they have no current plans to release such a device in the foreseeable, maybe they could say that?

It is extremely unlikely since the market is already full of small TFT displays.

The only words on another display were some vague mentions well before the 7" display launched about releasing a 10" disply some time in the indefinite future...maybe. (I, for one, would welcome that. Except for one very specific use, I find the 7" to be awfully small.)

i know that adafruit sells smaller displays for example. but ordering from adafruit from the EU is kind of expensive. and i have seen many forum threads about displays from other sources which seem to have driver support issues and bad documentation and such things.

what would be the cheapest 5" display without touch support i can order from within the EU?

Pimoroni (UK seller) sells a 5" HDMI display for £48, https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/hdmi ... hout-touch.

Is the actual screen a standard connection, can other screens be found to fit the driver board?

It looks to be the one from adafruit: https://www.adafruit.com/products/2232, TFP401 based and adafruit sell versions where you just get the board and add a display separately, but this model looks to be an all-in-one design so separating the display from the board might be tricky.

thanks! the 5" pimoroni display looks interesting.

i also wouldn't mind monochrome displays. are there any oled displays that work with a raspberry pi and are bigger than the 128*64 ones from adafruit? or any e-ink displays?

the 3.5" waveshare works fine with the "waveshare35a-overlay.dtb" file from github. The DVD supplied is not needed. I haven't tested the touch screen yet, but con2fbmap works, and I'm waiting on wifi dongle to apt-get fbcp.
