Use as normal desktop monitor

Wed Dec 09, 2015 3:25 pm

I'm considering the official display for (6 year old) daughter's Pi but she'd probably use it most of the time as a normal small monitor with physical keyboard and mouse. Most people are naturally using the display in a similar fashion to a tablet so I can't find much on the net about people using it as a desktop screen. Apart from the fact it's small, are there any other gotchas that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks for any thoughts.

I use my RPF display the way you're thinking of. FYI...the touch system still works when you attach a mouse to the Pi, so you get both. It should work for a 6-year-old. On the other hand, if you can get a used full sized desk monitor (17" or bigger), it will almost certainly be cheaper than the RPF display.

Thanks, that's exactly the info I was looking for. I've ordered the official display because I'm guessing there will be times that she want to use it as a touchscreen as well, plus it's small and neat for her little desk. Oh, and it came in red ;)
