STICKY: Official Touchscreen Display FAQ

Fri Sep 11, 2015 7:31 pm

Can the display turn off after x minutes and then be reactivated by just touching the screen, both in command line and in startx?

Thanks.

I think you are supposed to use "Recommended peripherals", but a forum dedicated to "screens" might be a good idea as there have been many threads about that topic.

The desktop display (startx) does go blank after a period of no input . It is immediately refreshed by just touching the screen. I suppose there must be a parameter somewhere that controls the length of time spent waiting for input. I haven't looked.

I have not experienced screen blanking when the command line is being used, but I don't use the command line for any length of time. I will just leave it running for a while and see what happens.

It would appear it does blank the screen when in command line mode, but I had to use the keyboard to refresh the screen. Touching the screen did not work.

Thanks! I should have just left it running to see (though I did try to find screen saver options in the GUI first).

Users have been complaining about X blanking for at least 15 years. Apparently nobody is listening.

I'm still discussing it with SWMBO, the household finance director.

Hi.
after display has been installed my PiDAC+ won´t work any more.
No Audio Signal.

Would be there an issue by powersupply via GPIO ?

Hi.
Yesterday evening I disconnected official 7 ´´ RPI Touchscreen from my PI2.
After that my DAC+ works as well as before.

In my opinion there is an issue with power supply of PI2, DAC+ and Screen.

My PI is powered by micro USB 5V 3A by a regulated power supply. Touchscreen and DAC+ was powerd by GPIO.
Current of PI and DAC+ has been 0,40 A - 0,49A. at connecting display current will rise to 0,91 A.

So there is a question to be diskussed :
Is it possible do power PI2 and DAC+ via micro USB and touchscreen via separate wires from power supply ?

Does the red LED on the Raspberry Pi go out? If so then the problem is the voltage to the Pi is dropping out.

Otherwise it is possible that the introduction of the screen is fouling the DAC I2C communications

Spezial i mean the available config.txt Settings and the Hardware Details.

Thanx!

Basically I meant more specifically Details - e.g. all possible config.txt settings

But now im confused... In the Blog stands:

70 degree viewing angle

But in that official Readme.md stands:

140 degree viewing angle horizontal, 130 degree vertical

Whats now correct?

It depends upon how you define viewing angle, the actual spec is

70 degree left
70 degree right
70 degree top
60 degree bottom

so total viewing angle is 140 horizontally, but 130 degrees vertically

Is that from before or after the latest Firmware-update?

Because after the Firmware was flipped upside down top and bottom angle is also flipped?

E.g.: Before:
70 degree top
60 degree bottom

Now:
60 degree top
70 degree bottom

:?:

No that's why it was flipped!

Originally we had the display upside down, which made the top viewing angle only 60 degree...

Now with the display the correct way up it is 70 degree up 60 degree down

Ah oke, Thanks :)

Another Question: Is it possible to display on both Video-Outputs the same Stuff , and with different Resolutions?

E.g.:
HDMI -> LXDE
DSI -> LXDE
both the same Screen?

Basically that would have to be done in X because it is the thing that draws in the windows and would therefore need to know about two different resolutions... And I'm fairly sure that X has no way of doing this!

It would actually be really hard no matter what system to had because you'd have to manipulate all coordinates and font sizes to draw the same thing at different resolutions!

Drawing everything at one resolution (800x480) and then rescaling to fit on the HDMI would work but work look terrible (plus there's currently no support for it)

How to switch off the backlight ? And what is this "INT" pin for ?

If I shut down the RPI2 with the Display connected, the backlight keeps switched on...
After some time it shows funny stripes, because there is no further control for the display.

Is there a possibility to switch of the backlight separate ?

Anybody here knows the function of this INT pin ?

PS: The Readme.md is not longer avail...... Is there any official doc for the display ?

Hm oke. And how would it be with XBMC on the DSI-Display and Video-Output over HDMI? By selecting the Movie over DSI-Display and playback comes over HDMI? ;)

Also i actually dont understand how i can switcch between both Outputs E.g. running mplayer over commandline

@ jorabo: For me the Readme is still available.

Raspberry Pi Swag store description has been updated to state that the old model B and A not currently supported - and lead time for shipment of the display from them is set to 6 weeks (for orders from September 18th).
It does not yet refer to the upside down issue with the frame (leading to sub-optimal viewing) but perhaps the lead time will be long enough for the folks at Pimoroni to work out a solution (they have said that they hope to get onto it soon).

Upgraded to Jesse today and noticed that when I boot to UI with startx, the UI doesn't fill the whole screen and some menus don't allow me to view/select options that are too far to the bottom. I didn't noticed this before Jesse but I could be wrong.
