Using official touchscreen 7' and RFID reader MFRC522

Mon Jan 04, 2016 2:29 pm

Hi Raspberry community!

I'm on a project with my raspberry pi2 with rasbpian Jessie installed.
I connected the official touchscreen (https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/the-ea ... i-display/), that work perfectly.
I used this tutorial: https://github.com/mxgxw/MFRC522-python to add a RFID Reader MFRC522
Howerver, to make it work I had to add the following line in /boot/config.txt : device_tree=on . And this line disable the touch part of the screen.
Would anyone have an idea to have both working together?

Thanks for your help,
Regards,
Maxime

device tree is enabled by default on all releases since about March 2015. You shouldn't need to enable it manually.

Yes, device_tree=on will actually disable Device Tree, because the firmware will think you want it to load a DT file called "on" (which will fail). As 6by9 says, DT is enabled by default (device_tree= will disable it, but you don't want to do that).

Thank u guys,
Your posts made me think to the issue differently.
I had forgotten a step in my configuration.
The right tutorial to use for having a MFRC522 working on raspberry, without perturbing any other device is this one:
http://raspmer.blogspot.de/2015/07/how- ... pbian.html
All the other tutorials don't say to add "dtoverlay=spi-bcm2708" to the file /boot/config.txt

Cheers,
Maxime.
