Not for the first time in MagPi issues have you completely ***** up the description of:

"Debian Stretch with Raspberry Pi Desktop"

In Issue 74

In late 2016, the Raspberry Pi
Foundation launched a build of Raspbian, including the full desktop environment

It is not a build of Raspbian and nothing to do with Raspbian, it is Debian x86 with 32bit Userland.

Please can you actually proof read articles ??

Thanks for the spot. We've added a note to the errata.

This is annoying to us also, especially because it's happened before and we know how important it is to get it right.

It is all too easy a mistake to make but you're right: it is our responsibility to check for it. We'll make sure to remind our writers and double down on our efforts to spot it in future.

Sorry for any confusion.

I wouldn't worry, many of us simple users out there just called it Raspbian X86 anyway.
It's just your brand of OS style now ;-)

It's much easier to use and less confusing to the average user and children.

It's not that important.

Some of Simon's Raspberry Pi Desktop (RPD) set-up scripts (on the X86 version) announce themselves as running on Raspbian. Apparently it's a humungously, big, important, life changing deal for Mr Fruity and therefore it absolutely MUST be changed yesterday or the Debian X86 with RPD remains unsable for everyone.

Personally I couldn't give a toss and the RPD thing doesn't work on my laptop, so I run it in an Oracle VirtualBox.

It's a request to use the official name, not a threat to imprison and torture anyone who inadvertently uses Raspbian when referring to the Raspberry Pi Desktop for x86.

On the whole, context immediately shows which is being referred to.

Though not always considering how many x86 posts are not posted in the correct section of the forum and have to be reported !

This was just recently posted and had to be reported:

Raspbian wasn't even mentioned in that.

I don't know where it was moved from, but unless a new user knows there is an OS section for that, I would assume most just post in the first near enough looking section. Probably beginners.
Which seems fine to me.

There is always going to be confusion, they look the same and few new users would care for sementics.

Few care they are running Android ARM or Android X86, same with Windows ARM and Windows X86.
It's just Android and Windows to people.

It happens within Raspbian as well.
They often do not mention the Raspbian version, Wheezy, Jessie or Stretch (at least above poster in that link did).

But yes the Magazine can educate and minimize the slight differences in actual usage (lack of usable, gpio unless it's has a Zero as an extender being a large difference ;-) )
