Magpi Issue 60: The Rsspberry Pi Desktop x86

Sun Aug 06, 2017 1:49 pm

Just installed the bove on an old acre Extensa 5620, all seems to be working great. Refreshed Package lists and and then checked for updates, of which there are a few, I then clicked install updates, system asks for an authentication for identity of PI. I entered the standard password of raspberry and the system said siad error - Authentication failed! Wrong passowrd?. Anyone have any ideas for the correct passowrd for the above?

I installed above to a laptop. Everything works as described. Now I ask what is the purpose all this. It is a raspberrypi without any connection to the outside world. No GPIO adressing for example. Connection to a raspberry ssh@.... is possible. For this I don't need the desktop x86. Perhaps I miss the idea of all this and somebody can explain it to me?

If you like the look and feel of Raspberry Pi and just want to write non-physical computing programs in Scratch or Python then its ideal

Its just a lightweight working Debian-based distro

I use it on old netbooks to VNC into my pi robots so I get to do the physical computing that way

Having a familiar menu/operation makes life simpler :)

It provides a cheap learning environment capable of running on new and older computers.
All the tool for education are there and mirror the 'Pi' documentation where Pi specific things are not needed.

If you need Pi specific then you can move the code over to a Pi.

""Debian Jessie with Raspberry Pi Desktop""
My only "PC" is an Asus ChromeBit running ChromeOS, cloudcentric at its best !
Rockchip Quad-Core RK3288C SoC as used in ASUS Chromebook C201 & Chromebook Flip C100PA as well as the Tinker SBC
