There's no such thing as Raspbian Pixel, it was Renamed to Raspbian Desktop (RPD).

Start by running it from the *.ISO (or bootable CD-ROM) in a Oracle Virtualbox then you can explore what it does and how the installer works.

Then read up on From Windows to DebIan as that's what X86 RPD is built on.

I had it running on a Thinkpad T420 alongside Windows using two separate hard drives. Even that is a bit cranky and it's best to have Linux as your Primary boot drive and Windows as the Secondary drive (as GRUB can load Raspberry Pi Desktop and Windows).

I wouldn't go near partitioning on a single drive myself, but if you fancy a laugh let me know how you get on. Make sure you don't care about the Windows installation or have it backed up :-)

Best bet is to go with VirtualBox inside Windows as DougieLawson suggests.

On an old T420 (or any SATA drive based laptop) you can spend a small amount of wonga

for £19 and pull the Windows HD out for safe keeping.
