The MagPi Issue 52 Christmas Tree

Hi,

Rather late I know (or early for 2017), I'm looking at the Christmas tree project.

On the image of the back of the tree card which do the characters mean night to the lights?

What does 'FOHN' mean next to the light number? There is also 'FOHN /1', and 'FOHN 05' appears twice.

Thanks

I don't know for certain, but if you add 1 to each of the letters it spells out something more familiar. Maybe someone had finger trouble when making the labels?

Wow, that's a real Agatha Christie style answer, and I think you must be right. Thank you and happy New Year.

It an interesting write up, but basically on Pg 17 you have green, red and white wires and a single star yellow wire. Which correspond to the same LED colour.
That's all you need, though on the front pictures they are of course blue, yellow and red and a 'star' and have a different amount of LEDs (present picture)

The diagram is just to show you how to stick them down of course, not a printing error at all ;-)

The important bit is the star is 14
The others are 7, 8, 12, 15, 16, 18, 20, 23, 24, 25

If it's not a typo, what does FOHN mean, and the random /1?

Not typos; they wanted to make a Xmas puzzle - except for two actual typos.

FOHN see above: GPIO in ascii-minus-1
Similarly the numbers - add 11 to them all, apart from 1/ which is a typo and should be 10, which translates to GPIO 21, and the lower 05 which is also a typo and should be 6, or GPIO 7

I'm not convinced, but thank you for the reply.

Solidus comes immediately before digit zero in ASCII/Unicode, so 1/ means 20, which fits with the code.

I agree the lower 05 should be 6 meaning 7.

I totally agree, and it could be seen as a bit of a joke about students trying to guess their way through multiple choice exam

... I have no idea how that happened. It said GPIO when we were checking it. That is bizarre. I'll try and get the PDF fixed

Thank you. Do I get a prize for spotting it!

Not on purpose then as others thought. It's amazing how one can think up good reasons for anything.

Thanks again.
