PI2 Touch for Windows IoT

Mon Jan 04, 2016 5:29 pm

Hi all,

I'm looking all over the web for a touch display for use on my PI2 board and noticed that Raspberry foundation released its own which is GREAT!

However, I'm seeing that it is only working for Linux and and only the Display without touch controller is working on Windows 10 IoT...

So, is there any plans for the Foundation (or Microsoft?) to release a driver for it anytime soon?

We have two big projects that we are moving to use PI2 but we need a device which works well with Windows and that includes a Display that support touch natively.

Thanks!

Best regards,
Gutemberg

Microsoft have access to the Drivers it is up to them to implement a driver, nothing to do with the RPF ;)

In our Windows 10 IoT Forum this has been asked previously:

Windows 10 IoT Core being a Microsoft Product it would be better to post on their forum where this subject has been raised:

Well, thank you for the reply but I completely disagree with you...

When you buy a nVidia card, they made the driver, when you buy a Dell computer, they have their own drivers or made by the manufacturer, whe you buy a Intel IoT board... In other words, Microsoft CAN do it, but they are not just obligated... They even opened the BSP to everyone who wants to try that...

But ok... I understood there will be no effort from RPF on that direction...

Will ping up MS folks...

THanks

Do those manufacturers provide drivers for every OS that may run on their hardware?
No.
In a lot of cases they only provide drivers for Windows and possibly some major Linux systems.
Frequently in Linux the drivers are built by other people. Not the device manufacturers.

Why should the RPF (who are already very busy with a huge number of projects and just a few paid staff) spend the time writing drivers for an OS that is provided by a third party, as opposed to the OS they actively recommend and support?
