Support for .Net Application on Windows 10 for

Mon Sep 21, 2015 7:50 am

Hello All,

I'm working on a project which works on .Net Application for desktop, which connects to an MySQL server to fetch data. I recently found out about Windows 10 for IoT and before buying Raspberry Pi 2 for this project I need to know whether the OS supports .Net application for desktop(i.e Win Forms). We are using following Components

1.MySQL ODBC Connector
2.Entity Framework 6
3.Windows .Forms(if required we can remove this an make an console application)
4.DataGrids(if required we can remove this an make an console application)
5.Buttons(if required we can remove this an make an console application)

Any help is appreciated

Windows 10 core IoT only supports Universal Windows Platform(UWP) applications.

If you can port your application, then it should work on the raspberry pi.

I would forgo Windows IOT and use the Raspbian OS with mono. The mono .NET support is quite complete, especially if you are using Windows Forms. I've previously ran an SignalR self hosted app with MySQL backend without any issues on mono.
