I'm about to build a mobile robot and would like to connect and remote debug wirelessly, does the Windows 10 IoT build include support for WiFi adapters? If yes, which I'm hoping for, could anyone recommend one please?

Thanks, tried to search but 'windows 10 WiFi' were all common phrases and the search didn't run so apologies for the FAQ.

Microsoft are very much on a learning curve so it does take some digging to find information ;)

Windows 10 IoT currently (August 2015) supports only one adapter: Official Raspberry Pi WiFi dongle.

It is really frustrating that only one adapter is supported. Come on Microsoft open it up for the 99.9% of us that do not have the official dongle.

That is factually incorrect, the WiFi Chipset in the RPi Official Dongle is a Broadcom BCM43143 Chipset, so that is what MS should of stated ;)

This is an alternative Adaptor https://www.pi-supply.com/product/broad ... spberry-pi

You will need to ask Microsoft as Windows 10 IoT Core is solely their product, the RPF have no development input:

Since September MS have released updates and they now support several USB WiFi Adapters:

So according to this list https://ms-iot.github.io/content/en-US/ ... Fi-Dongles I bought a Realtek 8191 USB Wireless WIFI device.

Problem is when I plug it into my Raspberry Pi 2 Model B running windows iot version 10.0.10586 and boot the raspberry the device does not seem to get recognized. When I go to the Networking window its not listed. Also the small blue light on the device doesn't turn on.

When I plug the Realtek 8191 USB Wireless WIFI device into a regular Windows 10 laptop it works fine.

Any ideas as to what I could be missing?

"Since September MS have released updates and they now support several USB WiFi Adapters:"

Unresponsive to the question asked in a misleading way.

The list of supported hardware is on the MS site and the FAQ.

Why badly reference with a misleading quote to a url when much better viewpoints and information exist.

Why continue to fight a loosing Political Battle in a science and learning space?

Please read and think through the Forum Rules before replying further.

IYHO no doubt without considering any wider implications of that rather naïve remark..

"When I plug the Realtek 8191 USB Wireless WIFI device into a regular Windows 10 laptop it works fine."

Ask Realtek or their clone when they are going to get round to doing it. They are the ones not doing the work but taking the cash, not MS

ricl can you use quotes as otherwise it makes it difficult to understand who you are replying to, this is used by the majority of forum users.

Just to close the loop on this thread, I bought a TP-LINK N150 TL-WN725N today, plugged it into the Pi and it worked fine.

I'm left to conclude the Realtek 8191 USB Wireless WIFI device simple doesn't work with the Pi and Windows IOT as advertised at https://ms-iot.github.io/content/en-US/ ... Fi-Dongles
.

I would suspect you are wrong. Microsoft are very careful to validate stuff before they put it on the Supported page.

Mind you, what is wrong in your setup is not easy to see from here. It may be something obvious.. It may be some thing very difficult. Or you could be right. That particular dongle doesn't work. If so, report it on either the MS page or Github
