Problems installing WindowsDeveloperProgramforIoT.msi

Sun May 03, 2015 8:51 am

Hello,

i currently set up my Pi2 with Windows 10 IoT. I also can connect via powershell without greater problems.
Now when i try to set up my Windows 10 Preview Desktop to deploy apps to the Pi i followed the instructions under
http://ms-iot.github.io/content/win10/SetupPC.htm
At the point where to install WindowsDeveloperProgramForIoT.msi i stuck. I downloaded the file and tried to install it
but i only get an error:
"Windows Developer Program for IoT requires Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate, Premium, Pro or Express 2013 for Windows Desktop. Other versions of Visual Studio, including Visual Studio Express 2013 for Windows, are not supported".

As i am new to developing with windows i am not sure if this step is really needed?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi,

You need to install Visual Studio 2015RC first.

Hi,

Did you remember to go into Custom and choose the developer tools?

Hi,

of course. i also installed the "Standalone Windows 10 SDK" and "Windows 10 Emulator for Mobile"
because i had problems during the installation of visual studio 2015.
It seems a little bit tricky for sdk beginners like me... ;)

Thanks

It's early beta software, what did you expect?

Microsoft are using an unpaid "community" of volunteers to test their software and highlight the things that make it difficult to use so that they can fix those before it's released to the general population (who may have to pay $$$$ for it).

There is a very clear tutorial here. If you are still having problems I suggest starting again from Re-installing Windows 10.

As has been suggested please verify that you have installed the correct RC version of Visual Studio 2015. If you are still seeing the problem after that, it could be that you've encountered this issue:
sounds like you might not have had a complete SDK install.

We have had some customers report installation issues with the previous step. As a workaround, please go to the Windows Developer Tools Preview page here, scroll down to the bottom of the page to the “Other download options” section and install “Standalone Windows 10 SDK for Windows 10” and “Microsoft Windows 10 Emulator for Mobile”.

OT stuff sent to the OT forum, which, I'm sure you'll agree has made the whole thread much more readable and the OP more likely to get help :)

Also, please read the sticky in this forum, specifically:
OK, this forum is for discussing the use and programming on Win10 IoT for the Raspberry Pi.

It is NOT for discussions of the merits and/or downsides of Win10 or Microsoft.

Hello,

Can I just comment that I whilst I fully understand why you moved the comments which were Microsoft bashing from Windows IoT forum to another more appropriate posting, you have not moved the post from 'DougieLawson' which started all the debate.

This does seem rather odd, as without his post the thread would not have gone astray. Is there a reason for this?

'Microsoft are using an unpaid "community" of volunteers to test their software and highlight the things that make it difficult to use so that they can fix those before it's released to the general population (who may have to pay $$$$ for it).'

Maybe it was overlooked. Is there something wrong with that statement?

Because it was factual and relevant answer to explain why installing this was not straightforward.

..... (who may have to pay $$$$ for it)

I would not class that as relevant? This was the comment that started the off topic discussion.
