I'm building a project for school and I need to know how to get the direction that the accelerometre is shaken in (like north, west, east, south). Any ideas on how to get the correct readings?

What kind of accelerometer? How is it connected to the RPi? What language do you plan to program? There is many articles and posts about accelerometers, if you do not have idea just choose one and start with that.
