Stand alone telescope eyepiece cam and screen

Mon Jan 25, 2016 9:18 pm

Hi Folks,

This is my project for using a camera to do astronomy using the pi camera and the adafruit PiTFT.

The main idea behind my project was that it had to be like a camera in its own right, ie no keyboard, mouse, cables etc.

The Pi camera lens was removed and I purchased a M12 adapter with 21mm hole spacing and screwed it to the board of the camera.
I then put it all into an old enclosure box that I had then attached a 1.25" telescope eyepiece adapter through a hole drilled in the top to the M12 adapter on the camera.

I have used the PiTFT from Adafruit for the viewer and the Picam python programme for the camera O/S.

I have taken pictures but I cant seem to upload them so I have posted a video on youtube about the build and some useage.

I hope that this will be of use to people who may want to do something similar.
