Accuracy of the temperature sensor

Tue Oct 27, 2015 11:35 pm

I was looking at acquiring 2 sense hats for a project. I was checking the tech specs on the swag store and the temp sensor is listed at "+/- 2 degC in the 0-65 degC range". Is this correct, it seems a bit wide? Is it a typo i.e should be 0.2 or is the sensor not accurate. As the sensors will be running and logging in 2 different places in the house and the results compared, they need to be accurate and close to identical. I can use other sensors e.g Adafruit but I am not that good at soldering and I need this running quickly. Btw, the hat(s) will not be mounted on the pi(s) so pi temperature is not a factor in the project.

It sounds like the sense hat is not appropriate for this project. How will you connect the hats to the Pi?

If you are trying to sense temperature at a distance the best place to start is with a Dallas DS18B20 one-wire sensor.

Use a ribbon cable. I don't need distance, just avoiding the 'board heat' problem. If I need to use something else I will stick with an I2C solution as I need to learn that for my main project BUT your recommendation has been filed for future reference. Thanks. :D
