Braille System that supports multi-language input

Tue Oct 08, 2019 8:43 am

Hi All

I'm part of a team that develops the HaptiComm project (hardware devices that convert text input into a Haptic language).
Part of this is to create HaptiBraille which generates braille.

Up until recently it has done English braille without issue (grade 1). The overall system is fairly basic (receive a character from the keyboard and generate a haptic pattern in response, The character can be generated through keyboard, speech recognition, OCR etc).

However, I'm wondering about the best way to approach languages and other alphabets that have different (extended) character sets such as the accented characters in french (ä, é etc)? We would also like to do other more compex languages such as Japanese if possible.

Thanks
