Hey Benjamin,

As many before I'd love to get one of your Toslink Sets, the project sounds great. Shipping would be to Germany.

Hope to hear from you.

Best wishes and have a nice week-end,
fabian

Has anyone tried one of these on the Pi Zero? I assume it wouldnt be an issue, but i havent seen anything about it in this thread.

I didn't try it yet, but the 40 pin header should be the same so it should be no problem.

You just need to add 1 line to the config.txt:

dtoverlay=hifiberry-digi

Then you can select the device in the Kodi settings.

Hi BenjaminKe,

me as well is interested to buy an already assembled TinyTOSLINK board. It should be shipped to Germany.

Best regards,
Dirk

PS: As I'm new to the board I'm not yet able to write a PM to you.

RPi3 Update

Finally I also got a RPi3 and the newest version of OpenElec supports the RPi3!

So I can confirm: the board also works on the Pi3 and Kodi is running really fast :)

Also LibreElec works just perfect!

The only problem with RPi3 and the currently newest OpenElec revision (6.0.3) is that it does not yet contain the newest kernel and there is a bug with the bluetooth driver which prevents the hifiberry driver from working correctly (the board will output only noise).

As most people won't need bluetooth the problem can be fixed by deactivating it:
Simply add 1 more line to the config.txt (just before the "dtoverlay=hifiberry-digi"):
dtoverlay=pi3-disable-bt
The overlay "pi3-disable-bt" is not included in OpenElec so you need to download it and copy it into the "overlays" folder on the boot partition of the SD card.
I have uploaded the file here:
http://www.share-online.biz/dl/SG38O2DORAM

On the latest LibreElec version (7.0.2) this bug is already fixed and everything is working perfect!

Best Regards
Benjamin

Benjamin, is the bluetooth bug present in the current LibreELEC release as well?

In case you're not aware, LibreELEC is a recent fork of OpenELEC, and nearly all the developers seem to have moved to it.

I can't say for sure - need to try it out

I'm still stuck to OpenElec because it works so perfect that I don't want to update :)

Just tried LibreElec:

The current LibreElec version (7.0.2) already has a newer Kernel and the HifiBerry Bluetooth bug on the Pi3 is fixed here!

Did anyone try to use BenjaminKe's or [IDC]Dragon's board on Raspberry Pi 2 B with Raspbian Jessie? I'm having trouble with getting it to work. I don't want to use OpenELEC nor any other distro - I prefer to make it working on clean Raspbian.

I added HiFi Berry to device tree and disabled default audio card in /boot/config.txt:

#dtparam=audio=on
dtoverlay=hifiberry-digi

I see HiFi Berry in aplay:

[email protected]:~ $ aplay -l

card 0: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_digi], device 0: HifiBerry Digi HiFi wm8804-spdif-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

When I play flac file with mplayer over hdmi it is ok. But when I disable on-board sound and load HiFi Berry mplayer plays file but my AMP does not see digital signal on input. I don't have oscilloscope at home to check if anything is transmitted. But anyway I think it migth be raspbian configuration issue. dmesg show this output:

I'm not sure if there are issues here. Does last line mean that wm8804 is operational?

Anyone have an idea how to debug it further?
Hi ! I've just received the device and I have the same issue. The device is working on OpenELEC but not on Raspbian, same problem !
Hi everyone ! It's been a while but now, everything is working, I had to choose AIF in alsamixer to have sound on Raspbian

Let me know if it's OK for you perryferryjny

Just to get this straight: I buy myself a RPi 3, your little wonderadapter, put them together and have an optical output? Thats amazing! Can I have one? (Germany)

Hi there,

New in the forum so please let me first thank Jörg, Benjamin and the rest for all the hard work with these cards. I have a Pi2 + IQaudIO DAC+, wonderful combo i use with Volumio and NAS.

I would also like to get digital sound from my laptop and/or TV go through the DAC+, but it lacks toslink input. Quite sure I'd be able to get the proper combination of interfaces buying stuff at audiophonics or similar, maybe having to buy another DAC, but searching google I got here. Two questions:

1. Do you still have cards left? I live in Barcelona... :D

2. Would it (even theoretically) be possible to have a toslink input to the Pi2, and through a rotary encoder send a signal to alsa to change to audio source from the USB/NAS to use the audio coming from the toslink? This way I would use the current setup for volumio, but by selecting a different hardware source send digital sound to the DAC+ as well.

Thank you so much

Hi!

So you only need a Toslink input and no output is this correct?
Or do you want to have both?

Theoretically you could solder a Toslink Input instead of an output and do a little modification and you have a input hardware instead of an output.
Or you could also solder a wire with an extra Toslink input and you get an input AND an output at the same time (but with this way your second input connector is extra and not directly fixed on the board.
The hardware itself (the soundcard ID) has an input and an output channel.
But there is one thing I don't know: I have no idea how far the HifiBerry drivers (software) support a optical input (the have it available on the official PCB, but it is not assembled - so I guess the can support it somehow but you need to try around with this on your own.

And yes I still have board left :)

Best Regards
Benjamin

Hi Benjamin,

Yes, I only need Toslink INput. My approach is to try to send that audio to the DAC+ (which is connected to the Pi GPIOs) by switching a rotary encoder (and this changes the alsa settings, pressumably). This way I would not need extra cards nor a new DAC.

How do you see it? Would I need your card for this (and modify it for input) or should I simply get a toslink base and soldier that to some different pins in the Pi (would that need a controller)?

Thank you again!
