Analog Photo Sensor add on

Sat May 13, 2017 4:36 pm

I am currently assembling a weather station. I want to add an analog photo sensor so I can record accurate sunrise and sunset, calculate length of day with my Pi. I have spent most of my morning neck deep in the web only getting more and more frustrated with this person saying I needed to do this or that. I have a "Yur Bot" analog light sensor that is wired to a MCP3004 AD Convert which is wired to Pins 3,5,14,17. I've tried this WiringPi program I found but my Pi is throwing compiling errors and I am not fluent enough in C/C++ to figure them out. Is there an easier way, say Python, to have my Pi read the sensor and just tell me when the sun rises and sets, then calculates the length of day? It sounds so simple to me. My niche is website design, not Linux/Raspian

I have run

Code: Select all

i2cdetect -y 1
and the Pi returned all dashes like it wasn't reading anything

I grabbed my multi-tester and began testing. I was receiving 3.6v @ the photo sensor and approx 2.35v @ the AD converter. The digital pin out is reading 3.35v?
