[WORKAROUND] B3 WiFi or Bluetooth but not both

Mon Feb 20, 2017 8:03 am

Using the built in antenna for WiFi and Bluetooth, with WiFi enabled, my keyboard / mouse bluetooth connections drop out every few seconds. With WiFi disabled, they work perfectly, permanently. Both are Logitech high quality.. Has anyone seen this, and if so, has anyone found a solution?

It has been reported many times on this forum. The only response I've seen from the RPF is this one: viewtopic.php?p=1104854#p1104854

The only known workaround is to add a Bluetooth or WiFi dongle.

Can I ask what model Logitech keyboard and mice your using? And are you using the Logitech Dongle or connecting them via the Pi's Bluetooth?
I ask because I use my Logitech keyboard with my 3B via the unifying dongle and haven't had any issues with WIFI or keyboard cute out. I haven't noticed any issues anyway. Will pay more attention next time I'm on my Pi though. I have a K400 with the built in touchpad that I use a lot with my Pi 3B.

The keyboard is K810, mouse is the ultrathin. This is using the inbuilt WiFi and Bluetooth. For me, the bluetooth connection is so unreliable, it's not possible to type a sentence - it disconnects every few seconds. With WiFi turned off completely, then the bluetooth keyboard and mouse work perfectly.

Does anyone know if there's a way to disable the inbuilt WiFi and use a WiFi dongle instead, leaving the in built bluetooth working? I checked via the PIXEL config, but there's no option to disable just inbuilt wlan0 on it's own, leaving the dongle wlan1 working.

Ok, thanks for the info. My K400 will only work with the Unifying Dongle, which explains why I don't see the issue you do. You have a real Bluetooth keyboard. That really sucks that its one or the other (WIFI or Bluetooth) but not both at the same time. Somebody messed up somewhere?

It's a known problem with the bluetooth / wifi chip that's being investigated by the producers - read higher up this post to see the link.

Just for the record, I've opted to disable the internal WiFi and use one of the edimax nano dongles. Instructions here

viewtopic.php?p=920016#p920016

Code: Select all

/etc/modprobe.d/raspi-blacklist.conf

#wifi
blacklist brcmfmac
blacklist brcmutil
#bt
# blacklist btbcm
# blacklist hci_uart
The BT keyboard and mouse now work like a dream.
