This fellow has a script that expands the file system but leaves
a little bit of "wiggle room".

I used it to expand my file system. I haven't tried

Just pull it off with your fingers, you're not going to damage the Pi. You may need to gently wiggle it to losen it, but it should come off without any trouble. If it leaves behind any sticky stuff use some pure alcohol or white spirit on an ear bud to wipe this off.
