... please as im prone to incremental back ups just incase i bork everything........ Maybe use Raspbian Stretch with Desktops SD Card Copier PiClone to back up to a SD Card in a USB SDHC Card Reader or Flash Drive ???

No - for that you would need to shrink the image and use dd (or something similar)

... different sizes after bad blocks are excluded. You cannot guarantee that you can copy from one to another using win32diskimager. AIUI, if you use PiClone, it makes a copy that excludes unused space. Unless your source card is really full, this will fit back on to a card of nominally the same size. ...

You can use rsync or tar to back it up/restore it. Not sure why piclone wouldn't run, though...

In Raspbian there is an SD Card Copier app (piclone if used from the command line). That can clone your current (running) card to another card in a USB SD card adaptor. It will adjust the size of the filesystems to fit on the new card.

The setup is plain vanilla, i.e. user pi (with passwordless sudo disabled) and root (with a password set. /etc/polkit-1/localauthority.conf.d/60-desktop-policy.conf is currently completely, do I simply add "pi" there, or something more elaborate? :-) PS: OK, found this here https://repecka.ne...
