The Amazon App store is pretty bare compared to the play store but I use the free RaspManager app from it to transfer files between pi and kindle. Not the most polished interface but very simple once you know where the correct folders are. It also does terminal access, ability to shutdown/reboot ...

I've done it with my amazon kindle fire 5th gen, don't remember how though :/. So it does work with some messing around, will have a play sometime today and see if I can get it working again. I do remember it had something to do with mtp or something like it.

I would try to find general ways to communicate with all devices so you aren't locked into this for this type of data transfer and that for another. To expand upon what was said above, it is generally easier for a cellphone or tablet to communicate to another device like the Pi using open standards...
