Re: Using wget targeting a NAS unit?

I had already tried to follow the link about CIFS mounting, But this is what happened (I have replaced sensitive info with ****): pi@raspbian-pi ~ $ mount.cifs //192.168.0.138/data/bosse /mnt/cifs -o username=user, password=*****,domain=***** Couldn't chdir to /mnt/cifs: No such file or directory pi@...

Re: Using wget targeting a NAS unit?

Thanks, the Synology NAS exports a couple of directories using Samba (Windows sharing) so on my Windows machines I just go to \\NAS\data\somedir and "it just works". I would ideally like to be able to access this from the Pi as well (R/W). When reading the second link I was a bit confused so I will ...

Using wget targeting a NAS unit?

I have two Pi:s running on my home network: 1) RASPBMC with XBMC, uses my Synology NAS as source of videos. Hooked to my Sony TV. 2) RASPBIAN currently used only for VPN connectivity to my network (OpenVPN and PPTP servers running). Headless. Now I would like to know if I can download files via the ...

Re: Can the Pi act as a print server for HP Laserjet CP1215

Thanks,
then I understand.
It is not as if my printer is brand new either...
The CP1215 has been around a great many years, so I guess that it has ample support in CUPS 1.5.3 once I get it to be recognized by the Pi as a USB device...

Re: Can the Pi act as a print server for HP Laserjet CP1215

One strange thing:
When I go to the CUPS.ORG website they state the latest CUPS is version 1.7.3 but what I received through the apt-get command was 1.5.3, a far cry from the bleeding edge...
Why is this so?
Is there a command on my Pi to update to a more recent version of CUPS??

Re: Can the Pi act as a print server for HP Laserjet CP1215

OK, the printer was connected to a powered hub from my Win7 PC and I pulled the cable off of it and inserted into the Pi instead. I thought that a printer would not pull power from USB since it is mains connected itself and consequently it would be safe to just run it to the Pi... Anyway I was on a ...

Re: Can the Pi act as a print server for HP Laserjet CP1215

That is also my deduction. The question really is HOW do I fix the Pi such that it will recognize the printer? I thought that installing CUPS would bring along all what is needed to identify printers, but maybe there is some deeper thing to also enable/install on RASPBIAN in order for it to discover...

Re: Can the Pi act as a print server for HP Laserjet CP1215

Just to complete the picture: The screen shown when I click Add Printer does not differ if I have the printer connected or not, it is the same always. So the "Local printers" items do not reflect something that is actually connected and available. Seems only to be a placeholder of sorts. I disconne...

Re: Can the Pi act as a print server for HP Laserjet CP1215

Now I have installed CUPS on my Pi, edited the conf file so I can access CUPSvia a web browser and also connected my CP1215 Color Laserjet printer to the Pi USB connector. I restarted the cups service too. When I open the web interface to CUPS (https://192.168.0.146:631/) and go to add a new printer...

Re: Can the Pi act as a print server for HP Laserjet CP1215

Thanks, I have looked through parts of the links and it seems like I could set up a CUPS service. What I don't really understand is how I could configure the printer when my Pi is headless. I have no way to bring up any GUI of any kind, the only access for management is a command window via PuTTY SS...

Can the Pi act as a print server for HP Laserjet CP1215

I have two Pi units on my network and I also have a USB connected printer that usually is connected to my Win7 laptop. Other computers on the network (i.e. my wife's laptop and a desktop) are printing through my Win7 laptop and obviously when I am away the printer is inaccessible. Today I got an ide...

Comparison OpenVPN and PPTP VPN on Pi

I have finally gotten my VPN installation working on a new Pi running Raspbian . Before this I had big problems to get routing working on the Pi so that the connected client could communicate via the VPN server. It seems to be caused by some special settings in RASPBMC which concern the firewall. Th...

Re: FTP on Raspbian?

I tried to change the port from 21 to 22 in FileZilla and SUCCESS! It connected just fine and I could download syslog and examine it like I intended to. I wonder what service is running to accept FTP over port 22, though? How can I find out? I looked at the sub-directory names in /etc/rc2.d but noth...

FTP on Raspbian?

I have used RASPBMC for a while with XBMC and on it I have been able to connect via FileZilla on regular FTP to transfer logfiles and such. Now I have bought a second Pi to use as a VPN server for when I am going away from home. On this I have installed RASPBIAN from the January 2014 download. When ...

Re: Cannot get VPN server working....

I managed to resolve the Pi disappearing act... It has used IP address 192.168.0.150 for "ages" and now it suddenly changed to 142... Had to struggle with the Pi and my DLINK router until I had set up a reservation for the Pi at 150 that actually worked. Many confirmation buttons to press until it ...

Re: Cannot get VPN server working....

Just got a hunch that I could not use handout IP addresses in the same network as the one the Pi sits on. So I changed the IP specifications as follows: 1+2) sudo nano /etc/pptpd.conf at end of file enter: localip 192.168.0.150 (IP of RPi) remoteip 192.168.10.100-109 (Range of IP to feed to clients)...

[SOLVED] Cannot get VPN server working....

I am trying to set up my Pi as a PPTP VPN server for secure connection into my home network. I have a DLINK DIR-655 router hooked to a fiber connection for 100/10 Mbit/s speed. I have set up a port forward rule on the DLINK for TCP port 1723 to the Pi IP address 192.168.0.150. And I have registered ...

Re: Power supply problem caused by charge cable

Right, I realize that the USB connector is a good selection for the reasons you state, however the cable issue is still rather a mess. Before I started cutting up the Micro-USB end I first made a small connector that fit on the P1 pin connector on the Pi board. I used pins 2 and 6 to feed the power ...

Power supply problem caused by charge cable

A few days ago I started to create a media player for my TV using the Pi (version B release 1). I used the NOOBS_v1_3_4 download on a 16 GB SanDisk class 10 SD-card. After reading directions in several places I had gotten myself a 2.1A USB charger to power the Pi. The installation had many problems ...
