Re: RELEASE: EmulationStation 2.0-RC1

Cacophony Have you tried the pocketsnes repo called ARMSNES? It has a lot better sound emulation and other bug fixes and improvements. The only problem at the minute is that doesn't play some games like Killer Instinct and DK Country 2 among others. If the developer can fix those problems I'd say i...

Re: RELEASE: EmulationStation 2.0-RC1

I'm willing to invest a lot of time and some funds if needed for this project as its a big deal for me, my only concern is that that the 512mb pi may not be technically capable of replicating SNES/GEN roms. If smoothing the horrible pixilated image could cause some reduced frame rates below 30fps t...

FYI, configuring the controllers for the various emulators is also a bit of work, so unless you're going to send your controllers too you're not going to get a turnkey solution.

Re: RELEASE: EmulationStation 2.0-RC1

Hi, I have a performance issue with Emulation on my B model. I added 7 custom systems, with a 720p background and a custom svg for title, and emulation station takes now more than 20 seconds to boot... The real problem is not the first loading screen at startup but that it takes 20 seconds to reloa...

How to return to Emulation Station without resetting RPI?
How long have you waited? I get a black screen for around 10 seconds after exiting a ROM, but Emulation Station returns after that.

I spent some time today building this new version for my Pi and trying to get it configured (I used the "Installing on Raspberry Pi (Stand-alone)" section) . There are lots of impressive improvements and overall I'm extremely impressed with how far this project has come! Nice work!!! :D I did have a...

Nice video! Looks like some very impressive improvements. What are you using for the scraping? Still es-scraper or did you make something different? I ended up giving up on using es-scraper about 6 months ago because on my large rom collection it incorrectly matched so many roms it wasn't worth the ...

Re: EmulationStation - an emulator front-end

Thanks! I used a similar approach based on your script to generate a .cpp file that works as a simple table. ES now properly "translates" MAME rom names into full titles. It only supports one romset currently (the latest), but it's really just a temporary hack until I get my more involved long-term...

Then I used a little bash script to reformat the data the way I wanted. Can you provide this bash script? The script I had on my drive was out of date unfortunately. I made some modifications here but it's untested. At the very least it should get you most of the way there. #!/bin/bash N=0; cat met...

Re: EmulationStation - an emulator front-end

Neat! How'd you generate the associations list? I might not use this immediately, but I'll keep it in mind, thank you. :) I used the "listxml" option. I can't remember if mame for pi supports it but older Windows/DOS versions of mame definitely do. So I did something like: mame --listxml > output T...

Re: EmulationStation - an emulator front-end

This works fine for the script, but ideally ES will be able to perform the "short name" to "real name" conversion offline (and efficiently), so MAME games show up with the right name in the list without needing to be scraped first. There is an update I have planned (for the far future!) that would ...

Re: EmulationStation - an emulator front-end

Scraping MAME and Neo Geo are not supported right now, so a theme would not make sense. Can you clarify this a bit more? MAME emulation on the Pi using Emulation Station as a frontend is very popular, and ES-scraper is able to scrape and generate the appropriate metadata xml. I've also independentl...

Any chance this new version will make it easy to have more than one image displayed per game? It would be great to display both the boxart and screenshot.

Re: [Solved] Autostart Emulationstation

Yeah, what you did is bypass the SSH connection test that's meant to prevent emulationstation from starting when you telnet to the box. The way you have it now it will always try to start regardless of whether of the box just booted or you've entered a new telnet session.

Sounds like maybe this command was mistyped (as it's doing the opposite of what's intended in your case):
[ -n "${SSH_CONNECTION}" ] || /usr/bin/emulationstation

Re: Autostart Emulationstation

Hmmm... not sure what to suggest.

If you've added this to your /etc/profile:

Code: Select all

[ -n "${SSH_CONNECTION}" ] || /usr/bin/emulationstation
Made sure to save the change, and then rebooted your pi, it should be starting emulationstation.

Re: Autostart Emulationstation

How exactly do you launch emulationstation from the command line? If you do it the same way in /etc/profile then it should work (as this file is executed at login). The only thing the "[ -n "${SSH_CONNECTION}" ] || " part does is prevent it from running when you login via ssh.
