Accelerated 2D & 3D with JavaFX8 or ...?

What's a good way to do hardware accelerated 2D and 3D graphics on the nice PI with Java? I saw Henrik's older post on the forum pointing to an article on the OpenJDK's Wiki (~summer 2013) with the following nice sentence: JDK 8 EA builds for the Raspberry Pi include full support for hardware accele...

Re: Java OpenGL ES 2 bindings using JogAmp JOGL 2

Alcoholiday, with a very similar setup like yours, I get an error message that Jogamp can't find certain classes. But when I include "jogl-all-noawt.jar", this "class not found"-error is gone, and the demo basically runs, with some huge triangle as overlay to the normal 2d (X11) desktop. Here's the ...

Re: What happend to Wayland?

Very thrilling, this Wayland project for the PI. For those who've not heard of or seen it yet (like I did until a few weeks ago), here's a nice demonstration including a video: http://www.collabora.com/services/case-studies/raspberrypi If I understood it correctly, the video mentions that Wayland's ...

Re: Images

Sorry, touch of "memory failure" there - I knew RiscOS was one of the smaller OS's that used less of a 2Gb card than "the others" but hadn't checked the "actual size" recently (it may have grown since my early tests some time ago). I guess a better place to ask about this is in the RiscOS section o...

Re: PiTUBE a little script to watch Youtube on PI

A other update: I'm using GPL3 for PiTUBE now so everybody can savely edit te source code and give it to friends @Fidelius: Do you mean I should add a feature to access youtube videos on this way in my script? I think that would be a good idea, to allow letting them download locally and then watch ...

RiscOS (which is not a Linux distro., but very good at what it does) may fit on a 1Gb card.Trev. I'd be much interested in a method how to "shrink" the current RISC OS raw image file to fit on a 1 GB SD card. Is this possible? I downloaded the raw RISC OS image from the foundation's server, it's so...

Re: RaspBerry Pi(e) Model C (imaginations & wants)

Aren't there already things like the fit-pc and that VIA mini-itx fitting board that came out ages ago (was it the APC)? I don't know them, but I know the Pi a little bit by now, and it's very impressive, working stable and well thought out, very British in short -- I already enjoyed that with the ...

Re: Unable to execute java files

What kind of error message does Java or Raspbian report, when you say "it failes to launch" ? What does "... it appears to be a folder in the desktop" mean exactly? Your Java installation is OK? Does "java -version" work? Is your downloaded JAR file a working one? Have you tested other JAR files whi...

Re: PiTUBE a little script to watch Youtube on PI

And for the cases where the script doesn't work or you want to have a Youtube video locally, you could replace the "www." part in the Youtube URL in your browser with "ss" and be redirected to the savefrom.net website which acts as a proxy server to download a Youtube video locally. And then just en...

Re: RaspBerry Pi(e) Model C (imaginations & wants)

The raspberry PI has proven that the kind of SoC's developed for non PC applications can also be used to build an "ARM based mini PC". So the concept is proven possible, what we now need is a simple "mini ITX" motherboard, that can fit in the cheapest desktop enclosures (plus PSU) available, but be...

Re: SD Card Format tool

Can I use Gparted ? Yes, it works very well to format and partition also SD cards used in the PI. And instead of using a console tool like "dd" to copy a downloaded Raspberry OS raw image file to a SD card, I find a GUI tool much more handy, like for example Redhat's "palimpsest". It's included in ...

Oracle and the Raspberry Pi Foundation provide a pre-installed high-quality Java Virtual Machine on the PI, for which I'm very thankful. It's an impressive piece of software, for sure. Well done.

Re: Ubuntu on Raspberry Pi

The latest Raspbian, with the latest turbo driver code, provides a pretty decent desktop speed, and almost everything that Ubuntu provides. Use that. A very sensible statement. It's exactly so. For example, Xubuntu Linux (an official Ubuntu derivate with the lightweight XFCE desktop) is similar to ...

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I have no access to "real" Linux. I have the Pi, running its version in the Raspbian distribution, and I have Windows 7 on my PC. I do not have the utility you mentioned. Oh, that's good to go. You could use two options: 1) The simpler way, download an Intel/...

Re: SD backup using Win32DiskImager won't start

I find Linux to be an excellent way to also handle images. Either use a native Linux, or a live CD/DVD booted Linux. Even a Linux running as virtual machine in for example Virtualbox should work. So, in Linux, it's a child's play: on your Debian based Linux (Debian itself, or the simpler to use desk...

Probably you would still need one main PC to run your Windows industrial program, but it could feed several Raspberries connected via a normal network. Das ist in anderes Problem. Thank Jamesh for your helpful answer, as usual. This whole PI is so exciting. It's a wonderful little machine. And I'm so impressed that nearly all these stable Debian packages run on the ARM ! That's a master-piece. I lost track of the ARM when Acorn went down with my Archie, but now it's a kind of...
