Re: RPi4 freezes after last (today) update

Copied the 2 files to the boot partition of my SSD and started up without any problems.
Did a short test on Youtube NASA stream which always crashed my setup without ever displaying a picture,
now works as expected. Will leave stream running for longer to check it is totally stable.

Re: RPi4 freezes after last (today) update

The supplied .zip file has 8 .elf files and no .dat files, is it supposed to contain fixup4.dat ?
and do we copy all 8 .elf or just start4.elf ?

Re: Shutdown rpi4 in chromium after upgrade raspbian

I have the same issue playing some but not all YouTube videos (NASA live Chanel does this) using SSD boot with new PI OS 32 bit installation (using kernel version 4). Needs power off and restart to fix. I have a 4-line LCD connected showing CPU temps etc and this freezes so I2C also gone down when i...

Re: RTC DS3231 won't work on RPi4

All I did was to add the following line to /boot/config.txt

dtoverlay=i2c-rtc,ds3231

I did not touch /etc/modules (I don't have this file) and all worked as expected.

Re: RPi4 with 2 monitors connected, tvservice -xx

Try command :-

tvservice -s -v 7

which should show status of device 7 as listed with tvservice -l

Hope this helps.

Re: Updated 64-bit Gentoo Image for RPi3 Released (now also for RPi3B+ and RPi4B)

Love the gentoo 64-bit image, thanks for all the hard work. Just one question if I may .... Is there a way to add a CPU temperature monitor to the top panel as per Raspbian ? There does not appear to be one listed in the add to panel apps option. I am used to using apt and have no real knowledge of ...

Re: [PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

Just received delivery of a UGreen m.2 Portable enclosure and a WD Blue M.2 250 GB SSD. Set it up and moved the / content over (as per previous instructions) and adjusted the cmdline.txt (used PARTUUID= not /dev/sda1) Re-booted PI4 and it is all good now very fast and no more excessive writes on the...

Re: [PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

Well a quick update ....... After running with / on USB 3.0 device for an hour or so it was much less responsive than the SDCard ! Sower to boot and slower to open programs like Chromium and Thunderbird. This is either my drive throughput or an issue with the USB 3.0 throughput (I hope it is not the...

Re: [PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

I have just followed the instructions at https://www.tomshardware.co.uk/boot-raspberry-pi-from-usb,news-61081.html and it worked ok for me. When I booted first time it took a while and flashed a few messages about /dev/sda2 (where I put /) then proceeded to display the desktop. I now have /boot runn...

Re: Cheap but effective PI 4 heat sink

Post a picture! I suppose if you were made of money you could take two more pennies, cut them in half and place them vertically along the top of the current heat sink to increase the surface area. OK as requested here is the picture, I have cut down to 10 coins and still getting good results, coin ...

Re: Cheap but effective PI 4 heat sink

There was a thread here long about about using pound coins for a heat sink! Your suggestion is obviously more thrifty. Yes I picked 2 Pence coins for the heat transfer copper content (as well as cheaper) , looks a bit naff and will not really fit in a case but hey you can't have everything. Guess y...

Cheap but effective PI 4 heat sink

Wanted to cool my new PI 4 a little but without the noise from a fan. Stacked and taped 20 X 2 pence coins together but a dab of MX-4 thermal paste on SOC and applied the makeshift heat sink. Noticeable drop in temperature, now idles below 57 C and when loaded stays below 74 C (stock frequencies and...

In berryboot initial menu screen where you select OS to boot press the >> symbol in top menu right hand side. Re: How to use official 7" display and HDMI

Thanks for the pointer I can see how this may work. I was hoping that maybe X could be made to use the 2 displays and either clone the output or extend the desktop but it looks a present as if this is something for the future if at all. I am sure with such an active pi audience something will maybe ...

How to use official 7" display and HDMI

Hi, looking for any help in getting the new 7" Pi display and the HDMI port to run at the same time. I have a Pi 2 running Raspbian and the new official 7" screen works a treat. I thought I may be able to also use the HDMI connection at the same time (many reviews say this is possible) but upon conn...

Re: Official Pi Touchscreen Unable to Properly Power Pi

I to have been having a number of issues with power from the touch screen to the Pi 2. I have tried both USB cable and GPIO jumper wires but both have the same issue. Numerous rainbow icons when using the desktop, I have moved all USB devices to a powered hub but this has had no effect on the issue....
