When I write python/tkinter code for the PI, does it need an operating system (raspian etc) to run the application? Or does python compiled code just do it all?
Thanks.

Re: Puzzled with this code
put it in the tags -- don't know if it indents automatically but all the identation is perfect. tried it both ways -- root.,mainloop() and without but don't need it to loop really. I come from a VBnet background where structure is different. and as I said it works fine if I just put "print done...

Re: Puzzled with this code
I should also mention that my objective is to have a 5 second delay timer that will "pause" the program (and keep everything intact, and then allow me to do more code
do this
pause 5 seconds (not sleep)
do more

Puzzled with this code
Beginner trying to understand why this isn't working. After 5 seconds I should see "done" and I do if I just put print('done') in the ctr function, so I know the timer works. Wanted to experiment with the global statement and I get nothing. I don't get any errors however. Here's the code -...

Python and Tkinter books
Finding that there aren't mant really good books on Python and Tkinter and this is the way I like to learn -- book to the side and PC in front of me. It can be more efficient than navigating various web sites to get the right answer. I did order that learning Python 5th edition but would like sugges...

Re: Best Python IDE
I've been learning Python and using IDLE but want something that has intuitive auto complete (to the max) -- which IDE will givce the best experience with pop up completion. This is great for the beginner. Heck even my Visual studio does a great job at this so maybe something like that. Thanks very ...

Re: Raspbmc -- add ons to desktop?
yeah, it's there but I'd like a stationary shortcut rather than mousing over anything to get to it. like a conventional desktop, you but up and your icons are already there.
oh well -- there's a will there's a way.

Raspbmc -- add ons to desktop?
Is there a way to put an icon on the desktop instead of --
MUSIC > ADD ONS > PANDORA
I have to mouse over 3 things to get Pandora started.
Thanks ! (by the way the Pandora add on works fantastic).

Raspbmc -- wow
Well after a week of trial and error, I have to say that the PI with xbmc is one monster of a performer. Just using it for an music player for mp3's and Pandora. (just installed the pandora add-on and it works great). So, one more issue -- I was having some unexplained nonsense going on and now have...

Re: Raspbmc -- command propmt
dirk -- I get no such screen when I exit. one problem may be that I notice the tv goes to standby and then then renegotiates the hdmi handshake for a while, but not too long -- you think maybe I'm missing the screen there? but like I say nevertheless, I have tried a hafl dozen times and even held th...

How do you get to the command prompt in Raspbmc? I was told to exit then hit esc key at blue screen but have tried 3 or 4 times and get nothing. I even held the esc key down. When I exit it just ultimately comes back to a normal xbmc screen. My goal is to get pandora installed and there is some term...

Can I run Pandora on the PI with Raspbmc? Non -- problematic? (Don't want to pursue this if it's one of those "ordeals").
If so, what's the BEST way to do it?
Thanks kindly.
I do have a working wifi connection on a model B.

First week of PI
Have a PI model B with Raspbmc as an MP3 player, nothing more -- was having daily issues with it unable to play files and stopping so I set it to NOT update. No problems since. Using paplayer for 3 days now with no problem -- had problems with omxplayer (for what it's worth). So, there's that. Now, ...

Hi folks -- new to raspbian and now see I have a choice of players (using it for mp3 only). What is the general consensus of paplayer vs the omxplayer?
Reliability is what I'm after -- most important. Thanks very much.

Raspbmc log file -- not online
I see this add on to make it "easy"? to see the log file but my PI is not and will not be connected to the internet. Was using it as an MP3 player, ran for 2 days straight, very happy but the PI locked up with a prompt that said unable to play file or something like that and "see log&...
