Re: Determine version of Python within running code?

Get the Python(3) documentation and start reading it (the important chapters) instead of googling around. The documentation is available in different formats. I prefer the Windows Help File format (chm), which is based on HTML but includes nice index and search functions. You need the xchm reader to...

Re: Liberation through Computer Literacy

gkreidl, One could take a different point of view. Fundamentally any given program, when presented with the same data should produce the same result. If that is not the case then we don't have a program, we have a kind of random number generator. Designers and implementers of programming languages,...

Re: Liberation through Computer Literacy

I thought this article goes quite well with the current topic title Mainly the last part, "The hope is that this paper gets us to talk a bit more about how we treat and view software that we exchange back and forth," said Williams. "We somehow naively assume this stuff will work, being experimental...

Re: Pulseaudio disturbs hdmi signal to tv and causes tv to blank/reconnect?

You have not told us, which media player you are using (on Raspbian). Kodi (using Libreelec or Raspbian) and omxplayer can switch the video resolution when playing video to match screen and video resolution and FPS. This might cause the effect you describe. It can be disabled in Kodi.

buffered reads is a red herring dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=524288 count=2048 will write 1GB to your device in a file called test change test to point to your mounted drive and give the results rsync will give various results depending on what it there already etc.. FYI, on my RPi 3B this gives 27,5...

Re: Pulseaudio disturbs hdmi signal to tv and causes tv to blank/reconnect?

You don't need pulseaudio to have audio output. In fact it is not installed by default. Huh??? So how come I can uninstall it? I lose volume control when I do! How do I regain volume control, after getting rid of Pulse in Raspbian? And how do I get rid of pulse in Libreelec? The Raspbian desktop ha...

Re: PI4 and 4K video player

I'd like a commandline H.265 player like omxplayer, but I've no idea if one is in the works. We have VLC supporting 4K H.265 when running fullscreen both from the command line and from X. I'm not sure if the updated version is out yet, but it should be imminent. Imminent? It isn't in the repository...

Re: Omxplayer not working properly on Raspberry Pi 4

Are you using the legacy driver or the 3D driver?

I've had a simlar problem with my 1080p TV recordings, but only when I was using the Legacy driver. With the 3D driver they all work, both in omxplayer(GUI) and VLC.

"A python dictionary doesn't track the insertion order, and iterating it gives the values in an arbitrary order." Found in various online Python resources. One implementation appears to be returning the data in a predictable order, but should not be relied upon to do so. It depends on the Python ve...

Re: Liberation through Computer Literacy

So what I'm hearing is Python's internal BIGINT is crap and GMP should be installed by default to make the language usable? No, Python's multi-precision integers are fine for most cases, you probably won't notice much difference in performance to GMP's until you get to really big numbers. The bigge...

You would think that Python would throw an error calling functions that don't exist. Auto fallback is news to me. All my fibo scripts offer different options. If the gmp2 module is found, it will be imported and used by default. If not (or the the -i options is set), it will fall back to using Pyth...

The H264 decoder doesn't support 4K. The H265 decoder does, but is only usable from Kodi at the moment.

I managed to run 2 HD streams, but the video and audio are cut every 5-10 seconds. CPU load I have about 35%. Is this too much load on the processor, or something else can be improved? With 3 SD streams, everything works fine.
It's simply the limit of the H264 decoder/encoder in the GPU.
