Connection refused on apache

Hi all, I'm running an Apache server on my Raspberry Pi, which I have installed a few months ago with my basic knowledge of Apache. I could access html and php files that were stored in /var/www from within my local network via the pi's IP address. This week, all of the blue I get a 'connection refu...

Re: Download to another Pi's external hard disk

The network is wired so the speed shouldn't be a problem. The hard disk as a mount on the Raspbian system sounds like a good solution, I will look into that! @Kagetaze, I don't understand what it is that I would be overcomplicating. OpenElec can't handle Flexget and I don't want to recompile my enti...

Download to another Pi's external hard disk

Hi all, I've got two running Raspberry Pi's: one with OpenElec as a media center (with an external hard disk connected to it), one with Raspbmc for home automation. I'd like to automate my downloads using Flexget but I found out that it's impossible to install Flexget on a OpenElec machine without r...

Beginner project: sending commands to linux

Hi all, I'm enjoying my Raspberry Pi as a media center and I would like to extend it by making it my control center for the home lights. I will be able to send a signal to one of the GPIO pins which switches a light (or an other electronic device) but I'm still figuring out how to send this command ...

Re: Surround sound not always working

Meanwhile I found a solution to my problem. In case anyone is interested: dual audio output forces stereo on hdmi, so that has to be disabled. In my case I also need to enable 'stereo upmix' for some reason. With these settings, my surround set plays 5.1 audio in surround!

Re: Surround sound not always working

Haven't tried it yet. I've heard it is a bit faster though, when I have the time I will try it on a separate sd card+usb. I sure hope I don't have to switch to OpenElec because I just did a complete fresh reinstall of Raspbmc and all my settings are exactly the way I want them to be  Except...

Re: Surround sound not always working

PCM supported: Max channels: 8, Max samplerate: 192kHz, Max samplesize 24 bits. AC3 supported: Max channels: 6, Max samplerate: 48kHz, Max rate 640 kb/s. DTS supported: Max channels: 7, Max samplerate: 48kHz, Max rate 1536 kb/s. So I guess there's nothing wrong with the settings. I tried omxplayer -...

Re: Surround sound not always working

Strange, it apparently has effect on my display, and it restores when I remove the line.
Is there any way to find out how the audio decoding is happening?

Re: Surround sound not always working

Thanks for your reply. Adding that line to config.txt didn't make any difference in playback (but it did change my display settings such as resolution in a weird way). I don't quite understand the '-p' option you're talking about. How do I use that command? Maybe it's unrelated, but I have enabled t...

Surround sound not always working

Hi, I've looked around the fora but couldn't find an issue that is similar to mine. I have Raspbmc running on my Pi, and the HD signal goes through a splitter so the sound leads to my external surround set via an optical cable. - When I play a movie that has AC3 sound with OMXPlayer I don't have any...

Re: GPIO suddenly broken?

Thanks for your replies. Just to be clear: I'm pretty sure it not the Pi but me that's causing the problem, I'm not that ignorant ;) Maybe I expressed myself unfortunate (English is not my first language). What I meant to say was that I don't understand what I'm doing wrong so the Pi's are damaged, ...

Re: GPIO suddenly broken?

Thank you, that sounds like something I could manage with my basis knowledge. Besides the two inputs (data and clock), do I also need to put a resistance between the ground and the Pi?

Re: GPIO suddenly broken?

Thanks for your replies. I'll look into the additional protection, but I'm not that technical so I'd have to do some research. About the order of powering off the supplies: I guess I first need to power off the LED string, and RaspPi second? The grounds of both systems are connected, I forgot to men...

GPIO suddenly broken?

Hi all, I'm using the Raspberri Pi model B as a media system with Raspbmc. I attached a LED string (WS2801) to create ambilight (using hyperion: https://github.com/tvdzwan/hyperion), which worked perfectly. Last week I was away for a few days, so I powered off the Pi and the seperate power source fo...

Re: SPI not working

I only switched the Pi, so the SD card, USB drive and keyboard are the same. Well, at least I know what the problem is. I haven't been working with 9V though, but maybe 5V can also do some damage in specific areas. On the upside: I just found out that there is still warranty on my Pi! When I will re...

Re: SPI not working

After some more testing with a logic analyzer it seems that my SPI pins (MOSI, MISO, SCLK) are not doing anything at all. Can somebody confirm whether this is a hardware failure or a software related problem? When I use the same SD card on another Raspberry Pi, everything is working well.

Re: SPI not working

Ok, I've tried some things to get SPI working. Since I have no experience with Raspbian I installed it using NOOBS. This is what I did: - Installed Raspbian via NOOBS - Booted the GUI - Installed spidev_test via the LXTerminal and compiled it - Added a # in raspi-blacklist.conf in front of the spi m...

Re: SPI not working

That may be the best solution.
I'm only familiar to Raspbmc and Xbian and quite new to Linux, can you point me to a simple, basic tutorial how I should install Raspbian and XBMC on the Pi?

Re: SPI not working

Thanks for your post. I've found a similar tutorial like the one you recommend, the (weird?) problem is that "/etc/modprobe.d/raspi-blacklist.conf" is completely empty, is this normal?
I've added an attachment for clearance.

SPI not working

Hi all, After hours of reconfigurating my ambilight (hyperion) setup, I found out that SPI is not working. When I run spidev_test while MOSI and MISO are connected, all I receive are zeroes. So my new mission is: get SPI working! Unfortunately, I'm quite new to Raspberry Pi and Linux, so I'm not abl...

Re: Permission issue

Thank you for your advice. I'm slightly disappointed in the many tutorials online who claim to describe the process for beginners, but don't mention the risks of messing around with the /etc folder. At least they could describe step by step how to do it safely, instead of saying 'copy this file to t...

I'm not sure I'm using the right command, but I can't get the permissions to transfer to the etc folder. I'm using this: sudo scp ~/Documents/boblight.conf pi@192.168.2.146:etc Boblight/conf is my file, ip address is of the Pi. When I enter this it asks for a password. I enter the right password, bu...

Re: Permission issue

I may not have made it clear, but I am unable to access any terminal, PuTTY nor the Pi itself. PuTTY will not connect, probably because Raspian doesn't boot up properly (?). In any case, starting up the Pi gives me either a XBMC startup loop or a black screen without any possibility to type commands.
