You can make a live CD/USB of Gparted and boot your Mac with it to edit the partitions.

Unless the video was encoded in Xvid or H264...it's not going to play period (the CPU will max out in less then a second)

I'm not sure but are the mp3 drivers (called "non-free" and sometimes have to be downloaded manually) included by default?

Note that most USB monitors actually create a second GPU so anything displayed on this monitor won't be accelerated by the the VideoCore IV found in the Pi.
