Works a treat, much more minimal than lxde and comes preinstalled.
Wow much easier than installing an additional DE; I'll have to try that out some time!

Re: Exactly 5v?

In theory, the Pi can run on 4.75-5.25V and anywhere from 500ma (I've been able to do it) or higher current. (However, when powering from micro USB socket, the most it can draw is 1000ma-1200ma, not sure exact number)

Re: Setting a specific resolution

I'll give that 480p mode a go later, but I doubt it will work. Negative overscan entries don't seem to have any effect over HDMI. I tried other 15:9 resolutions, but upscaling and then downscaling results in even more blurry text. The bigger the resolution, the blurrier the output. What I really ne...

Re: Composite display tweaks

Is it possible to force the Raspberry Pi to enable display output on the composite video port? It seems that it is only enabled if the Pi detects something connected to the port on startup. I would like to be able to use the Pi headless but have the option of plugging in a TV to the composite port ...

Re: Question about Pi

Hey, I just read faq, read some articles and decided to order pi :) But I have some questions to ask, probably easy ones. 1-) As power source, can I use my cell phone charger's micro usb cable with wall socket connector? It says on it output : 5V 1A. Will it be enough for pi, or too much or less? 2...

omxplayer is the most lightweight (doesn't require X windows to be running) and is the only GPU accelerated one (and thus only H.264 and Xvid)
You can try mplayer, but you'll probably only get about 15 fps

Eurika! Ok, setting hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080 allows me to successfully boot at any resolution available in the list at http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt Unfortunatly, 800x480 isn't listed as an option. Is there really no way to define a custom resolution? At the moment I'm using 14 (848x480) whic...

Re: CSI-2 and DSI Connectors?

The camera when it arrives will come with GPU drivers specifically for it, and only it. It is very unlikely the CSI interface used will be able to support two camera's, maybe with a "CSI switch" if such a thing can be made, but not for two camera's at the same time. I asked Gert about this at some ...

VLC isn't GPU accelerated.

If you're on the latest Wheezy, you can type

Code: Select all

omxplayer filename
and play Xvid and H.264 files (in any container)

It's not going to happen for a long time., if ever.
