Re: Overheating problem with new 512MB model

Looks like you may have the same problem as several other people posting in http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 28&t=20657. :(

My advice would be to ask the supplier (RS?) for a replacement.

Re: Monitor DVI Signal Problem

On further reflection, I'm not sure that you realise that you need a Linux distribution specifically geared to the RPi. Perhaps a look at http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads would also be in order.

Re: Monitor DVI Signal Problem

Wait, this might sound like a stupid question, but do I need to program the SD card with Linux before I connect the Raspberry Pi to the monitor? Would this affect the signal going from the Pi to the monitor? And does anyone know the easiest program of Linux which I can put onto the SD card? Oh, and...

Re: No desktop when booting finishes

Which operating system (OS) is supposed to be on the SD card? Did you buy the SD card with the OS already installed or did you put the OS on it yourself?

What have you got plugged in to the USB port(s)?

If you type on the keyboard, do any characters appear on the screen?

Re: Raspberry Pi, portable power supply

A better solution would be to use a 6xAA multi-block pack to make 9v and since one Ni-MH AA is approximately 3000mAh you have a total of 18000mAh to play with. :) I don't think you do. If one cell gives you 3000mAh at 1.2v then six of them in series will give you 3000mAh at 7.2v, not 18000mAh. You ...

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

This is beginning to look like a problem with the soldering of the BGA SoC to the PCB. Although baking may effect a cure, I would be concerned about the long term reliability of such a "repair".

Re: Red light only (solved)

The green LED is the equivalent of the Hard Disk activity light that is (or was at one time) common on the front panel of PCs. When lit it signifies that the SD card is being accessed. Initially it was labelled 'OK' but was changed on later boards to 'Act'. The change was only to the label; there wa...

Re: Many GROSS design failures on the Pi -USB failures

In the sixties, when Wireless World was the Fount of All Knowledge, I remember an ongoing discussion (can't remember the protagonists). The underlying theory was that one should design a layout using waveguide principles. I don't recall that specific discussion but I seem to remember the name "Ivor...

Re: Unpowered Raspi breaking HDMI-CEC

My understanding is that all 512Mbyte RPis have Issue 2 boards and http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1929 indicates that although D14 is still present on those boards, it is connected slightly differently so as not to cause the HDMI-CEC problem. The above understanding is based only on what I have...

Later firmwares and distros are much less prone to sticking/missing keys than earlier ones. So a lot depends on exactly what versions you are comparing.

Re: Many GROSS design failures on the Pi -USB failures

My understanding is that the acknowledged (by people in or close to the Foundation) USB problems are not caused by the SMSC USB/LAN chip. They arise from the USB part of the Broadcomm SoC. The design (hardware logic and software driver) of that part was bought in from a third party.

Re: No video output

I am not sure of your exact problem, but not all HDMI -> VGA adapters are the same is my understanding. Some are just simple wiring that passes the signal directly to the monitor and just adapts the connector basically. I believe this means that the computer has to be putting out a signal that is c...

while running the resistance rose to around 25 ohms I'm guessing you tried to measure the resistance while current was running through the device, this is impossible! A resistance measuring device (multimeter) drives a know current trough the resistor (device under test) and then measures the volta...

Re: New PI (512MB) - nothing happend @ start

There are really only three possibilities: 1. Not enough power for the RPis. 2. SD cards don't have the Operating Systems written properly. 3. Faulty RPis. But It is very unlikely you have two faulty ones. I guess you have not ordered SD cards with OS on them, but are writing the cards yourself. If ...

Apologies in advance if any of these make you say "Does he think I'm that stupid". :) 1. The HDMI lead must be removed before booting the RPi. 2. The composite video out (RCA phono jack) is a baseband video signal which needs to be connected to a baseband video input on the TV - typically a yellow R...

There are acknowledged issues with USB on the RPi. These are being worked on but there is no ETA for a definitive f...
