Mr Webster normally gives good advice but on this occasion I have serious doubts. I think http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 22#p219222 will be more useful to the OP.

Re: DC to DC diy converter

As for LM78s05 never used one however I can tell you that LM7805 needs at least an input of 6.6v before it can provide a regulated 5v output.. The LM78s05 is a "low dropout" regulator and can work with a much lower input to output difference. However, 5.1 volts out from 5.6 in is a bit "iffy" espec...

Re: DC to DC diy converter

The most elegant solution would be to modify the Dell supply to give 5 volts. But that would require getting access to the internals, 'reverse engineering' the design and understanding it enough to know how to modify it. Could be as simple as changing one resistor. But maybe not the most practical s...

Re: Overheating problem with new 512MB model

My new RS supplied 512MB RPi is also cutting out consistently at between 5 and 15 mins after switch on. I used a temperature probe to measure (several times) the Samsung RAM chip and this shows a surface temperature of 34.5 - 34.7C at cut-out. The room air temperature was 22.1C. I then applied a ha...

To pass the cables, I planned my work at home in all rooms the cables in ceiling: I hope you used quality cables and kept them well away from mains wiring. Analogue baseband audio over unbalanced cables of that kind of length can be subject to hum/noise/interference pickup and earth loops. :( I'm n...

Re: ImageWriter might break my sd...?

If using Ubuntu (or Linux in general) the command line method of writing an image (sudo dd bs=1M if=anyold.img of=/dev/sdx;sudo sync) will work without needing reformatting, or changing partition sizes or deleting partitions.

That is standard behaviour in Linux. Just type the password followed by the "Enter" or "Carriage Return" key. Note that the default password is usually "raspberry" for user "pi" in the RPi Debians.

Re: cannot view SD Card on MAC or PC

You should be able to rewrite an image to a card without needing to format it. However if the card has a valid Debian image and the card is not defective/damaged you should be able to see to see at least one partition from a Windows PC. Ubuntu should see two partitions. And I expect a Mac should als...

Re: The Raspberry Pi which killed your internet connexion

My guess, and it's just that, is that the power supply doesn't have enough juice to power the lan port on the pi, so it fails in a strange way, and kills your Internet connection. If there is a NATing router between the RPi and the ISP, I cannot imagine the WAN connection being killed by strange be...

The system don't give me a name for the sd (sdx). In which case the SD Card Association's formatter (https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/) may not work either. :( If you have a suitable digital camera, try formatting the card in that. If still no luck, I fear another SD card may be your on...

Re: Powered USB Hub

I had an identical looking hub bought through ebay UK which arrived before my RPi. I returned it before I got my RPi. The main reason was that the accompanying PSU was absolute rubbish. It couldn't maintain 5 volts at anything over a few hundred milliamps. Looking inside I was horrified at the elect...

The posts in http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 28&t=20657 may indicate that some RPis are passing the factory test but would fail a soak test. However, without those boards being professionally examined it is not possible to come to a definite conclusion.

I had the opportunity to connect the raspberry to a monitor through hdmi, keeping the rest of the configuration. It worked! noise/snow disappared. If you unplug everything from the USB sockets, does it still do reboot loops? In theory you don't need to format a card before writing a new image to it. However some image writing programs appear to 'ignore' that theory. :) If yours does, try the official SD card formatter from https://www.sdcard.o...

Thanks for all the suggestions. It is sounding like the polyfuse is probably bad and heating it in an oven isn't going to help that. When writing the SD using the Linux 'dd' command it is highly advisable to also use the 'sync' command after it, before removing the SD card.

@falk0069. I surmise that you are trying to measure the resistance of F3 while the RPi is powered up. You cannot use a multimeter to do that - any readings you take are completely meaningless. My guess is that there is a batch problem with the soldering and (one or more) of the connections of the So...
