Re: GUIDE: Google Assistant on Raspbian

Thanks for the update instructions I've tried several times, including entirely removing the directory and starting again - and can't get it started any longer. I'm stumped (env) [email protected] ~/AIY-projects-python $ python3 src/main.py python3: can't open file 'src/main.py': [Errno 2] No such file...

Re: ALSA asoundrc capture config help?

OK. I give up. I can play recordings from the mic from vlc - audio device "default" and stereo mode "left" - but just can't get aplay to make a peep.

Good enough for now I suppose. Now... let's try and work out how to install google aiy onto an existing setup...

Re: ALSA asoundrc capture config help?

I'm getting there with SPH0645LM4H and "mysimplecard". Volume is still very low, but I've not tinkered much with alsamixer (would adding a second board, sel->high to allow stereo help with the levels achievable?) The main problem I have now it that when I try to play back what I've recorded through ...

Re: USB Booting Question

With the 3B+ you shouldn't need the SD card at all. There will be a few seconds delay while the Pi checks to see if there is a valid SD card, before moving on to boot from the USB device. I never got this to work reliably on a 3B with a WD Foundation Edition Pi drive. Maybe 1 time out of 10. Are th...

Re: UPS for a 3B & WD PiDrive Foundation Edition

That's definitely overkill! Moses, I'm in the UK. I know one end of a soldering iron from the other (you only make that mistake the once) - but would prefer to find a solution which didn't require surgery to the Pi. The current cable (see picture in posts above) isn't a typical "Y" cable - it has 1)...

Re: UPS for a 3B & WD PiDrive Foundation Edition

Thanks Moses, That means that in order to power the WD drive I'll need the UPS to have a 5V ~700mA output to USB in addition to whatever's needed for the pi itself, and another different Y cable to inject power in from both UPS and the supply?? Current cabling: Y Splitter from 3A WD PSU, one leg goe...

Re: UPS for a 3B & WD PiDrive Foundation Edition

Hmmm - the official WD supply I have is 3A, and I get occasional lightning bolts with that when I have no other peripherals than the wd drive, and with the pi not working hard on anything other than periodic internet accesses and a little bit of read-write to the drive based on what it reads. I'm no...

UPS for a 3B & WD PiDrive Foundation Edition

Hi all, We had a power outage the other day, which my pi didn't like at all! Is anyone able to suggest a UPS which will: + keep the pi and WD PiDrive Foundation Edition hard drive working long enough to survive short glitches without needing to reboot + when battery getting low, to shut down the pi ...

Hi, yes, you can do this.

At the risk of sounding rude, have you tried a simple google search for "raspberry python internet radio"? You sill see many examples to choose from.

This I2S MEMS microphone is a bottom transplant, so make sure your bottom hole faces the sound you want to read.

Please could you recommend a microphone for AIY use?

I have a pi in an old radio case and using the old radio speaker - being my radio/alarm/working from home computer, and I'm thinking of adding Google Voice capabilities to it. The speaker is powered by a little amp plugged into a cheapie USB sound card that has a microphone input jack that could be ...

Re: 64-bit operating system

I once worked on an IBM mainframe (S/360-30) that had 32KB. It really hurt when a new release caused the OS nucleus to grow from 6KB to 8KB. I spent several weeks recompiling programs to get rid of double-buffering of files so they would still fit and run (no virtual memory in those days...and, as ...

Yes. An install completely wipes the card.

I would install to an entirely new card and then use a usb sd card adapter to mount the old card. You can then copy over any files you want from there.

Yeah - I should do that sometime. I'm not sure that I know how to do it though. Yet.

That's the fun of the Raspberry Pi - finding something you want to do and working out how to do it.

I PM'd you the address for my pi - would be interested to know what can be observed (please remove address info!).

Of course, with the x86 build of Raspbian, even if you could work out the O/S it may not be a pi.

Ahh - ok - so there's not currently a method to identify hardware but you think it might be possible by packet timing and inspection and that sort of thing. I know you can gain a lot from packet timing on a local network but would doubt that would be possible across the net. Packet content helps you...

That netcraft thing is not very useful then.

I already got to know my web server and OS for a bunch of my servers just using netcat.
Netcat can tell you that an internet site is on a pi?

Re: List of websites hosted on a Pi?

Well, I checked my site using various analysers, and the most information I could get was from https://toolbar.netcraft.com/site_report and all it gave for identification was:

OS : Linux
Web server: lighttpd/1.4.45

I didn't see any that detected that it was a Pi.

I was getting a little lightening symbol in the top of the screen when I connected 5V to the pi using a wet piece of string, so now I've connected the Pi to mains voltage and it's getting rather hot. Nothing's showing on the screen when I look through the blue smoke - but at least the lightening sym...
