config.txt is in the /boot partition. The format of this partion is vfat, you can read it directly on your PC. /dev/mmcblk0p1 on /boot type vfat [email protected] ~ $ ls /boot -l total 14600 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4275 Feb 7 18:17 bcm2708-rpi-b.dtb -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4275 Feb 7 18:17 bcm2708-rpi-b-plus.d...

Re: best practice for automatic updates?

A word of caution here: Personally I would never want to run system updates unattended. Things can break very easy that way and you'll never know what caused it. The only times when you would have to do this are: - When running into bugs with the software that you already have. - When installing new...

Re: NTP not updating

All the servers in your list are stratum 16 which means: Invalid. Is this perhaps a static list of servers you defined yourself? Looks like they're all of the grid right now. In that case, you'd better switch to an ntp pool; there you will always have servers that are actually responding for ntp. Fo...

Re: Charge controller keeps cutting the power.

The battery is definitely too small. 7.2Ah is the rated capacity when the current drawn from it does not exceed 10% of that. ( =0,72Amp) So you could draw ~0,7Amp for about seven hours. By doubling or tripling (2A) the current draw, the stand-time will be reduced by more than that ratio. What this m...

Re: using Multiple pi's as slaves

My pigpio Python module allows control of multiple Pis from one script over TCP/IP. The module can run on Windows, Macs, or Linux (including the Pi). You don't happen to have a C-version of that module which works with PiFace Digital :?: Would be enough if it works on a single Pi. /emgi

Re: Write data into MySql

Writing to the database obviously works. What the code sample does not show is how often it is invoked. You can use the system time to check and only write in the database when a certain digit has changed, then set a variable to 'done' and wait for the next change in system time. In that way you can...

You pretty much hit the nail on the head :!: Unlike one would perhaps expect, a new user is not equivalent to user pi. Re: Issues mounting network drive on Pi

If I remember correctly, you need to install samba-common in order to get the mount.cifs.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install samba-common
Another tweak with the newest kernel seems to be that you need to add an extra parameter: sec=ntlm

Are you running the browser with another user than the default ones [root, pi] :?:
Under that condition I had the same problem. Solved by changing group membership.

Are you driving it with python or with the C/C++ library? There's a bug in the C/C++ library which stops it working with the new 3.18.5-v7+ kernel. https://github.com/piface/libmcp23s17/issues/8 I don't know if that same bug is in the python stuff. Can you add all the groups that pi belongs to? "video" is the obvious one which is needed for using GPU features. Obviously it shouldn't crash if this is not true, but it may stop hardware acceleration (e.g. jpeg decode) working if you can't talk to GPU. And just FYI: The X-server doesn't crash; it...

WEB browser issue Pi2B [solved]

Yesterday I fired up my new Pi2B with a default Raspbian image. Although I didn't notice it at first, there is an interesting problem with the browser: When you start the GUI as a new user, the browser exits on various websites, apparently when it hits a page that contains graphical content. In fact...
